Girls smarter than boys so why lower hurdles to force gender quotas?

It is kind of ironic that UTS thinks that lowering the ATAR requirements to get more girls into STEM fields makes sense. What happened to independently minded girls who want to pursue their interests as individuals rather than try to rig admissions to push ideological quotas?

Isn’t that what International Women’s Day is all about? To create equality of opportunity?

Forget that the average ATAR score for girls is 71.1, higher than boys at 67.8.

Could it be that girls and boys tend to like different things?

A Scandinavian study conducted across 470,000 subjects showed that while girls from nations that had pro gender equality policies in place qualified as well if not better than boys to do STEM, simply chose not to elect to study it. It had the exact opposite outcome of what was expected.

There is a reason why 99% of bricklayers are men and 80% of nurses are women.

Sensibly, Pymble Ladies College (PLC) principal Kate Hadwen openly said,

We don’t need it, do we, girls? No…It’s outrageous. The thinking is to try and encourage girls into STEM. But I just think that it’s absolutely saying women need help. We don’t need help. We’re great as we are, thanks very much. You have to earn your place there… I’m a believer in that.”

By all means, tell girls the virtues of what a STEM degree might bring in terms of a job and remuneration but leave it to them to pursue it if they feel it is of interest.

Peter Ridd wins unfair dismissal action

Congratulations to Prof Peter Ridd, who has won his court case for unfair dismissal. Ridd, who was unceremoniously dumped by James Cook University for challenging the orthodoxy about the deterioration of the Great Barrier Reef, exposed the Marxism rife within our government funded universities.

The whole point of university is to encourage new thought and fresh ideas. Not sack those who disagree. So much for mounting a credible argument to debunk Ridd’s assertions. If anything he has proved the faculty couldn’t disprove him with facts.

He has won on all counts with respect to unfair dismissal. Will the Dean move to sack/sanction/demote those who encouraged the sacking?

A necessity that should be unnecessary

President Trump says he will issue an executive order to ensure free speech on university campuses across America which accept federal research funding. He is right. The sad thing is he shouldn’t be required to do it.

University faculties appear overrun with cultural Marxists who can’t tolerate open debate inside institutions that should be only too happy to foster new learning and thinking. In CM’s day you could argue with lefties in the refectory without being physically threatened.

Alas, no. Today only the thoughts of those that fit leftist narratives preached by professors have been allowed. To think of the violence outside campuses where Milo Yiannopoulos, Lauren Southern or Ben Shapiro were scheduled to present.

It’s pretty simple. Why not gauge the number of people that are interested in attending conservative speeches as a barometer of the popularity of those who hold different views? Argue their words with counter-factual rather than slam them as racist, bigoted white supremacists.
