81 Nobel laureates endorse Biden

You have to hand it to the academic class. 81 Nobel laureates have endorsed Joe Biden with,

At no time in our nation’s history has there been a greater need for our leaders to appreciate the value of science in formulating public policy…During his long record of public service, Joe Biden has consistently demonstrated his willingness to listen to experts, his understanding of the value of international collaboration in research and his respect for the contribution that immigrants make to the intellectual life of our country.”

Listening to the predictions of many of these academic experts during COVID-19 is hardly confidence inspiring.

It is fascinating to think that after 47 years in government and 8 years as VP he is somehow going to fix America’s problems.

Americans clearly don’t pay too much mind. 70 endorsed Hillary Clinton back in 2016.

We never forget the time before the Brexit vote when a table went viral listing who was in the leave or remain camp. The leavers included Trump, Putin and BoJo. The remainers included 300 economists, Barack Obama and the National Union of Students.

As ever, these endorsements are a way for elitist academics to let we peons know that we have nothing on their intellectual superiority and should heed their wise words.

We thank the Nobel laureates for helping Americans increase their support of Trump by talking down to them. As if Hollywood celebrities weren’t bad enough.

Instead of quelling the riots, Portland’s mayor will simply move house

One would think after almost 100 days of consecutive protests that the radical left mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, might eventually do something to quell the unrest, violence and murder on his streets.

One might have thought he had worked out back in July that joining the rioters in solidarity only resulted in them heckling and eventually ejecting him. Fail.

When the rioting eventually came to his house this week, that wasn’t a trigger to pull the plug on the destruction. Instead, he will move house. In an email to the other residents of his 114-unit high rise, the mayor expressed his “sincere apologies for the damage to our home and the fear that you are experiencing due to my position…It’s unfair to all of you who have no role in politics or in my administration.

Does he not think that all he will end up doing is transfer the problem to his new neighbours?

When Trump offered Wheeler federal aid (aka  National Guard), the mayor wrote this open letter.

Dear President Trump:

Yet again, you said you offered to aid Portland by sending in federal law enforcement to our city.

On behalf of the City of Portland: No thanks.

We don’t need your politics of division and demagoguery. Portlanders are onto you. We have already seen your reckless disregard for human life in your bumbling response to the COVID pandemic. And we know you’ve reached the conclusion that images of violence or vandalism are your only ticket to reelection.

There is no place for looting, arson, or vandalism in our city. There is no room here for racist violence or those who wish to bring their ideology of hate into our community. Those who commit criminal acts will be apprehended and prosecuted under the law.

Tens of thousands of Portlanders have peacefully protested and marched for the noble cause of fixing our broken criminal justice system. They are part of the proud progressive tradition of Portlanders fighting for justice – from racial justice to economic justice to environmental justice.

When you sent the Feds to Portland last month, you made the situation far worse. Your offer to repeat that disaster is a cynical attempt to stoke fear and distract us from the real work of our city.

In Portland, we are focused on coming together as a community to solve the serious challenges we face due to systemic racism, a global pandemic and an economic recession.

Stay away, please.

Signed,

Ted Wheeler
Mayor of Portland

As was the hangover this morning, everything is Trump’s fault. Perhaps Wheeler and Oregon Gov Kate Brown might reflect on the response of local law enforcement as to which branch of government has a clue what to do in order to end the civil unrest. That is right. Instead of looking after his constituents, succumbing to Trump Derangement Syndrome was the better option.

Trump’s tweet, “The big backlash going on in Portland cannot be unexpected after 95 days of watching and incompetent Mayor admits that he has no idea what he is doing. The people of Portland won’t put up with no safety any longer. The Mayor is a FOOL. Bring in the National Guard!” was on the money.

Trump also retweeted this criticism of Wheeler: “the useless f**king idiot and comic relief that gets everyone killed in every disaster movie,” adding “Tone down the language, but TRUE!”

Perhaps Mayor Wheeler might heed the words of Winston Churchill:

“An appeaser is one who feeds his friends to a crocodile in the hope it eats him last.”

Then the inevitable happened…civilians took up arms

Who knew that eventually armed civilian militia would front up to protect local businesses in places like Kenosha, Wisconsin?

Of course BLM is upset. They point out the hypocrisy of the protestors. If they want to win hearts and minds for their cause, harming the livelihoods of innocent residents and business owners isn’t smart.

Utterly shameless

We’ve sat back in amazement at the audacity of the claims made at the DNC.

Whether it was Michelle Obama lying about kids in cages (when it was her own husband that built them), a divisive speech made by her husband, a non-binary mermaid queen-king talking about abolishing the police, prisons and ICE or having celebrities share their stories of financial pain during coronavirus, the following was perhaps the most egregious of all.

The DNC used the story of a deported woman to attack Trump’s cruelty against illegal immigrants. Who knew that Alejandra Juarez had been deported under President Bill Clinton in 1998 and again under President Barack Obama in 2013?

Democrats used Alejandra Juarez’s daughter, 11-year-old Estella, as a weapon against Trump during the Democratic National Convention when she read an emotional letter:

Dear Donald Trump, My name is Estella. I am 11-years-old. My mom is my best friend. She came to America as a teenager over 20 years ago without papers in search of a better life. She married my dad, who served our country as a Marine in South America, Africa, and Iraq. My mom worked hard and paid taxes, and the Obama administration told her she could stay. My dad thought you would protect military families, so he voted for you in 2016, Mr. President. He says he won’t vote for you again after what you did to our family. Instead of protecting us, you tore our world apart. Now, my mom is gone, and she’s been taken from us for no reason at all. Every day that passes, you deport more moms and dads and take them away from kids like me. You separated thousands of children from their parents, and you put them in cages. Some of those kids are now orphans because of you. Mr. President, my mom is the wife of a proud American Marine and a mother of two American children. We are American families. We need a president who will bring people together, not tear them apart.

The Washington Times noted,

Experts said an Obama-era initiative expanding the use of local police fingerprint checks to aid deportations likely flagged Mrs. Juarez for ICE…At that point, the Obama Homeland Security Department had a choice. It could have shown leniency but instead reinstated her deportation order from 1998, putting her on the path to deportation that the Trump Homeland Security Department carried out in 2018.

Orange man bad.

After the John Lewis eulogy, what did anyone expect?

After Barack Obama’s eulogy about John Lewis, it was going to be hard to set a lower bar. He failed to do so. Nevertheless, he managed to rip Trump in his speech, despite his own failed legacy.

While the Obamas have eloquence in abundance, sadly the content doesn’t match the delivery.

Trump was right to tweet that Obama had been so late in endorsing the man he called the “greatest VP in American history.” Only up until the very end did he endorse Biden. Had he a shred of dignity he would have supported Joe Biden from day 1 of his intention to run.

How amusing to think that Barack Obama urged Biden not to run for president in 2016 and 2020, preferring Hillary Clinton over his own VP. Obama questioned Biden’s ability to win and warned others “don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f**k things up.

Now with Obamagate unravelling, the sinister behaviour behind the smile is becoming apparent. Are we to believe Obama was completely unaware of all of the shenanigans going up to the highest levels of the FBI? The Durham Report will undoubtedly sling a lot of mud as to how corrupt the Democrats have been leading into and coming out of the 2016 election.

How quaint after spying on Trump that he said in reference to his successor, “Because that’s what’s at stake right now. Our democracy.”

More of his scandals can be seen in a piece we published here.

Obama in our view was the most divisive president in US history. This speech was nothing but sour grapes exposing the very failures that helped Trump win in 2016 and likely in 2020.

The great USPS Mailbox robbery?

How strange that the supposed Mailbox Heist at the sinister hands of the Trump administration has been occurring since the 1980s.

In 2009, WaPo wrote of the mailbox conspiracy. It stated, “half of the blue boxes in the Washington area have disappeared in the last nine years, and 200,000 nationwide have been plucked up in the last 20 years, leaving 175,000 total.

There are currently 141,900 mailboxes according to the USPS. Note 14,000 were removed under the Obama/Biden administration.

In the last decade, mailed items fell from 171bn to 142.6bn (-17%).

First class mail volumes have fallen from 28.9bn in 2010 to 16.5bn in 2019. Down 43%.

Retail offices have shrunk from 36,222 in 2010 to 34,613 in 2019. Or down 4.5%.

Post offices now have to compete with a plethora of delivery services from Amazon, FedEx and UPS. Furthermore many businesses and agencies accept PDFs for many documents.

Why not let the USPS speak for itself?

Historically, mailboxes have been removed for lack of use and installed in growth areas…When a collection box consistently receives very small amounts of mail for months on end, it costs the Postal Service money in fuel and work hours for letter carriers to drive to the mailbox and collect the mail. Removing the box is simply good business sense in that respect. It is important to note that anyone with a residential or business mailbox can use it as a vehicle to send outgoing mail.

It is so easy to run conspiracy theories but one look at the data and another myth busted. But hey, who would run a voter suppression or voter ID narrative? We remind people of a video made by Ami Horowitz on the very subject. Who knew it was the dimple the opposite of the narrative?!?

56% of Biden voters picking him because he’s not Trump

A Pew poll revealed that:

56% of voters who back the former VP Biden over President Trump said they did so because he is not the Republican incumbent. Just 19% support Biden because of his “leadership/performance,” and only 13% plan to vote for him because of his “personality/temperament.” Just 9% said they like Biden most because of his “position on the issues.”

Comparatively, 19% of Trump supporters cited “he is not Biden” as their main reason to vote. Meanwhile, 23% credited the incumbent’s leadership and performance for their decision and 21% said they would vote for him because of his personality and temperament. 17% of Trump voters said they support him because “he is for American people and values.”

The Hodge Twins take a comedic view of Joe Biden’s V.P. pick.

Warning: these guys aren’t exactly politically correct.

Icelandic double standards on LGBT

Well done Iceland. How woke to stoop to childish antics and show open disrespect to the deputy leader of the most powerful nation in the world. Do the Icelandic president and corporations honestly believe that trolling Mike Pence (regardless of his personal beliefs) with rainbow flags and bracelets will somehow make him change his views or persuade those that support him to abandon him? So the way to show the moral high ground is to seek to diplomatically humiliate.

Here is betting that the Icelandic leadership and business community don’t fly the rainbow flag when dignitaries from Pakistan, Guyana, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Myanmar, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka or Egypt visit, a small selection of countries that criminalize LGBT activity, unlike the US. Of course, Iceland has received glowing accolades for the stunt on Twitter which probably speaks volumes of credibility. This is what cowardice looks like.

Human Dignity Trust lists the following stats with respect to the criminalisation of LGBT people.

72 jurisdictions criminalise private, consensual, same-sex sexual activity. The majority of these jurisdictions explicitly criminalise sex between men via ‘sodomy’, ‘buggery’ and ‘unnatural offences’ laws. Almost half of them are Commonwealth jurisdictions.

44 jurisdictions criminalise private, consensual sexual activity between women using laws against ‘lesbianism’, ‘sexual relations with a person of the same sex’ and ‘gross indecency’. Even in jurisdictions that do not explicitly criminalise women, lesbians and bisexual women have been subjected to arrest or threat of arrest.

12 jurisdictions in which the death penalty is imposed or at least a possibility for private, consensual same-sex sexual activity. At least 6 of these implement the death penalty – Iran, Northern Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen – and the death penalty is a legal possibility in Afghanistan, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar and UAE. Executions have been reported in ISIS-held territory in Iraq and Syria in recent years.

15 jurisdictions criminalise the gender identity and/or expression of transgender people, using so-called ‘cross-dressing’, ‘impersonation’ and ‘disguise’ laws. In many more countries transgender people are targeted by a range of laws that criminalise same-sex activity and vagrancy, hooliganism and public.

Iceland trades with many of these anti-LGBT countries. Perhaps Iceland should put an embargo on those nations. Why not ditch 6.8% exports and 5.8% imports with the US if they feel such abhorrence against America?

Here is a picture of Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Iceland, Prof. Arusha Cooray with President Gudni Thorlacius Johannesson of Iceland. Sri Lanka a country that can imprison someone of LGBT background for 10 years. Maybe corporate Iceland didn’t get the memo to fly LGBT flags? Ambassador Cooray and President Jóhannesson discussed the potential for increased collaboration between the two countries in the areas of tourism, fisheries, tea, arts, culture and sports. Wait, no discussions on LGBT Mr President?

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Iceland, Prof. Arusha Cooray with President Gudni Thorlacius Johannesson of Iceland.

The greater irony is that Mike Pence’s boss has openly advocated that nations which criminalise LGBT seek to repeal such human rights violations.

And yes, President Trump is hardly the high watermark as goes diplomacy. That doesn’t mean two wrongs make a right.
