Babylon Bee Twitter account suspended

As ever with the far left dictators in Sillycon Valley, even parody is considered subversive.

Babylon Bee took to writing the following letter informing readers of the ridiculous suspension. Twitter reinstated the account after claiming an all too common ‘mistake’.

Time for social media giants to lose their legal protection. If they are going to shut down comedy, they are exercising editorial control which means they deserve to be treated like any other media company.

Readers of The Bee,

In case you hadn’t heard, Twitter suspended our account yesterday. In an email to us, they claimed we violated their rules against “platform manipulation and spam.” The email included a warning that that if we tried to open another account, that new account would be suspended, too.

We published screenshots of the email and our suspended Twitter page, and called on our followers to make some noise. We started trending almost immediately and Twitter responded by reinstating us, saying we’d been suspended “by mistake.” So we’re back on Twitter, at least for the time being. But we share the concerns of others who’ve rightly observed that these “mistakes” tend to work in one direction.

We’re grateful to have followers who aren’t afraid to speak up and hold these big tech companies accountable. But there are no guarantees. We couldn’t be sure they’d reinstate our account. And we can’t know if they will the next time they make a “mistake.” But we can do our best to prepare for a worst-case scenario. At least we can if we have your help.

When we first launched our subscription service, the primary reason we gave for supporting us was to help us become less dependent on big tech companies. We explained:

We depend on Facebook and Twitter to drive traffic, and Google Ads to monetize it. Without these networks, we’d have no revenue to cover our expenses. And as you’re probably aware, none of these companies are friendly to Christians or conservatives. In fact, that’s a severe understatement. The control these companies exercise—and the outright hostility they display toward those with more traditional views and values—has us deeply concerned about our future as a publisher of Christian satire. But here’s the thing: If just a small fraction of our readers become paid subscribers, we’d have enough funding to survive without running ads, effectively eliminating our dependence on these big tech companies.

The more subscribers we have, the less we have to worry about our dependence on Twitter and the other big tech companies. So I’ll close with the same call to action you might have heard from us before: If you value The Babylon Bee and want to see us prevail against Twitter and anyone else who might seek to discredit or deplatform us, please consider becoming a subscriber. Your support will make a difference.

From our whole team, thank you for your loyal readership and support.

Demuckracy in 2020

We have long thought the 2020 presidential election would be ugly. That is hardly a wild stab in the dark.

Democracy is the last thing on the minds of the political class. We’ve had a 7-month introduction to what is at stake. Despotic governors have been swift to arrest, charge and humiliate normally law-abiding hair salon and gym owners for feeding their families while allowing peaceful protests to go completely unpunished.

These are the same politicians who supported the police when it suited to beat up taxpayers until it was expedient not to do so. As cities burn and crime soars, they threw the police under the bus and blamed them for inciting peaceful protestors. Many activist judiciaries gladly let off violent felons with no more than a slap on the wrist.

Our thoughts have always been if the average US citizen wakes up every morning and sees a burnt out shell where a supermarket once stood, graffiti scrawled over historic buildings and plinths with nothing atop them, they don’t need a biased media to tell twist what they see with their own eyes.

How ironic that the cities most affected are run by Democrats which have held power in many cases for over half a century. This is a first hand lived experience situation for most residents in a crisis. Utter failure, excuse making and politicians doing the exact opposite of what they wish for. More police, lower crime and law & order. Instead, city mayors virtue signaled as cities burnt. They took photo ops to paint Black Lives Matter on City streets even though the Marxist BLM movement lambasted them for pandering to white liberals.

Teachers’ unions have gone on strike demanding pretty much everything other than safe reopening to combat coronavirus.

The media is an ever willing accomplice. MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace has openly celebrated the prospect of a recession and spoke of a silver lining to coronavirus if it means Trump loses office.

What hypocrisy when the media cheered a White House reporter for questioning Trump about his lies this week. That coming from an industry that has never had lower ratings for trust.

Let’s not even start with social media giants and their bias – declaring themselves medical experts and deleting information they deem incorrect. No longer are they independent platforms for free expression but what they tell us is fit for consumption. Forget your rights. They think we’re too stupid to make such decisions.

Now voting rights are front and centre.

Never mind that a bipartisan commission agreed that mail-in ballots were the highest source of voter fraud. This year, in NY & NJ, between 20-25% of ballots were ruled invalid. Voter intimidation and fraud has been recorded. Several Democrats have been arrested and charged for engaging in the criminal activity.

Now the postal service (USPS) says it is not equipped to handle mail-in ballots safely.

Scroll back two years ago. We wrote of the number of Democrat controlled states which passed legislation to keep Trump’s name off the 2020 ballot if he failed to publicize his tax returns. Shouldn’t voters, not state legislators determine whether his taxes are an election issue?

As November 3rd looms, the mudslinging will make impeachment and the George Floyd riots feel like quiet nights in.

The public is at boiling point. The silent majority is growing fed up. They look at the available candidates and ponder is the best the Democrats have to offer? A presidential candidate losing control of his mental faculties teamed up with one of politics’ biggest hypocrites in Kamala Harris. An individual who gladly accused her running mate of believing his sexual assault accusers and racism. Who backflips on nearly every policy and has even suggested ICE operates like the KKK.

Never mind, the balanced NYT has labeled her a “pragmatic moderate“. We never knew that defunding the police, supporting men playing in women’s sporting codes and providing healthcare for all illegal immigrants were conservative positions. That will learn us.

As much as people may hate Trump for all of his bluster, many of his economic policies have been successful as we pointed out at the time of his SOTU. He has exposed just how useless politicians on both sides of the aisle who have served for decades have been.

His job isn’t over. When it comes to mud wrestling there is no finer professional. If it sticks he doesn’t care. He only knows forward. Await the fireworks. Democrats want revenge but they might be best to remember when embarking on it, to dig two graves.

Trump is 100% correct with this Exec Order against Twitter et al

While the mainstream media will howl in protest, Trump has made it very clear to social media companies with this executive order – YOU DECIDE.

Trump is merely saying is that if these companies wish to keep a liability shield in place, they need to abide by the neutrality of the service provision which was always the spirit of the law. They flaunted it and now opened a Pandora’s Box all by themselves.

Simply put, Twitter, Google, Facebook and others were getting away with murder. Censorship by its very nature dictates pushing political and social views on others. What a wonderful loophole it was to push political agendas with zero legal repercussions.

Google was busted after a video featuring senior management discussing plans after the 2016 election went viral. There is such chronic bias as much as they plead innocence. Ask yourself why your phone seems to populate ads on your webpages based on searches?

Twitter has censored more conservatives than we can list. To Twitter, it is not the principle but the side that matters.

Ultimately Trump has told them they are at liberty to run their businesses how they choose. Unfortunately, if they go down the path they have freely chosen they live by the new rules which are completely appropriate.

POTUS is 100% correct but watch the mainstream media meltdown. Zuckerberg, at the very least, gets it. Dorsey is too Trump deranged to know better. Trump also added that the government would be pulling the billions of dollars it gives social media platforms now that they want to actively push their own agenda.

Once again – the message is “YOU DECIDE”

Tiger King – we dare you not to binge-watch

Yesterday we watched the Netflix docu-series, ‘Tiger King‘ which runs through the five years in the lead up to zoo-keeper Joe Exotic’s 22-yr conviction for murder-for-hire.

In a word – mind-blowing.  The production is outstanding. You’d never believe that you could watch seven 45-minute episodes of this saga. Believe me, you can!

It is an eye-opener into the sordid pits of the human mind. To see how a group of misfits with literally no other choices in life become locked into an ecosystem which is so awful to them yet they manage to pledge a strong sense of loyalty to the Tiger King.

At the top of the tree, the politics of control come into play resulting from power shifts that spawn out of poor ego-centric driven management decisions. This created almost comical incidents of multiple-felons demanding ethical behaviour and strict governance.

Note that Joe Exotic ran in the 2016 presidential election. He managed 872 votes in Colorado placing him 11th out of 23 candidates. After missing out he ran for the Governor of Oklahoma. Unfortunately, he missed out on the Libertarian ticket with 669 votes or 18% of that primary.

In a nutshell, Tiger King encapsulates exotic animals, cults, guns, explosives, murder, felons, criminals, disappearances, sex, prostitution, polygamy, brainwashing, faith, amputations, guns-for-hire, incomplete police investigations, LGBT rednecks, employer coerced breast implants, arson, theft, embezzlement, political ambitions, social media, copyright infringement, lawyers, court cases, punitive damages and Walmart. Seeing is believing. Be warned – there is zero political correctness.

As someone from my former university best put it,

If you thought you had seen everything, get ready to understand that you are still wading in the kiddie pool.

God Bless America!

The realities of crowdfunding & the evils of social media

No doubt many of you will have seen the viral video posted by the mother of Quaden Bayles, a child with dwarfism who was allegedly bullied at school.

Famous actors, sports stars and media personalities rallied in support of the disabled kid. If only the same could be said of over 90% of the 256,700 people that shared his GoFundMe page instead of contributing themselves. That’s right, in today’s virtue signalling world, appealing that you care about social justice is enough.

Although the ugly side of social media is never far away. It didn’t take long for trolls seeking to demonize anyone by dredging up the past and drawing conclusions in haste. Digital footprints have a half-life of infinity.

Some suggested that his mother was abusing his skills as an actor, influencer and model to make some extra money by boosting his profile. If this was a stunt, which we sincerely hope it wasn’t, that would be an even more despicable act at the hands of those who should be protecting his best interests.

img_5096-1

Ultimately, 9-yo Quaden Bayles should simply not be in the firing line. Sadly he will be collateral damage as a growing number have taken upon themselves to savage him and his mother. That is not to condone any alleged deceptive behaviour but it throws up the growing dangers of social media. An exponential number of people seem so desperate to have their profiles go viral that they are resorting to ever more extreme actions to achieve it.

The GoFundMe account to support Quaden has amassed c.US$455,000 from 20,100 people for him and his mother to go to Disneyland. As doubt to the authenticity of the bullying claim does the rounds in cyberspace, the mother is being attacked for using his disability to raise some quick cash via GoFundMe. The facts don’t show that.

First, she didn’t ask to set up the GoFundMe account. Comedian Brad Williams did. Second, the organiser clearly stated that “after all the flights, hotel, tickets, and food is paid for, any excess money will be donated to anti-bullying/anti-abuse charities.

We won’t bother to make some sort of woke comment to condemn bullying of any sort because that should be the default setting for anyone with at least two brain cells. There are no points for publicly broadcasting one is against attacking a child with a disability. Or without one for that matter.

Still in this day and age, we should never underestimate the actions of some who gladly look to hijack a “trending” cause for their own social media exposure.

Hollywood is a great example. How so many actors and actresses came out and rallied behind the #MeToo movement despite Harvey Weinstein being the worst kept secret in movies. Celebrities rushed to condemn his actions on Twitter despite wearing black ball gowns with the surface area of three postage stamps held together with dental floss to protest sexual assault. That’s right, when it comes to career progression and fame, expedience by remaining silent trumped principle.

If people wish to part with their money on GoFundMe we think they bear all the personal responsibility of doing so. At the very least, GoFundMe should consider a 7-day cooling-off period where the money is held in trust such that the impulsive have an avenue to reverse a decision if any misrepresentation which changes their decision crops up. The cross-jurisdictional nightmare of charging a fundraiser for potential fraud makes it too complex, much less for the generally small average size of individual donations.

Today, social media is judge and jury. People are smeared before getting a chance to prove their innocence. For all of the video footage and pictures of Quaden Bayles dressed in designer fashion several years prior to his emotional plea this week, it doesn’t automatically cancel out the chances he was bullied by his peers who probably don’t know any better. He may have given as good as he got. He is only 9-yo. It is ultimately irrelevant. We know bullying has dreadful consequences, sometimes fatal. It shouldn’t just come down to seeing a video of a disabled kid before we do something about it.

Unfortunately, the lessons about the dangers of bullying so many demand kids are taught aren’t practised by the very adults on social media who should know better.

Pelosi turns on AOC staffer

CM has held for a while that the Democratic Party is so fractured and disjointed in policy that it will end up eating its own. Recall Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, belittled the Green New Deal as the “green dream.” CM said it was best for Pelosi to bring Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) inside the tent for the very reason she won’t use her platforms to say silly things because she isn’t on the A-team.

Well AOC’s chief staffer, Saikat Chakrabarti, has stepped in and accused Nancy Pelosi and her ilk as being “New Southern Democrats” further contesting,

They certainly seem hell bent to do black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did in the 40s.”

Pelosi shot back,

All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world. But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got…You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just OK

Good to see the harmony inside the Democrats will lead them to a resounding 2020 victory……..

A show of hands anyone?

The Footy Show is axed

This is what happens when TV producers think being woke, hip, diverse and inclusive (i.e. politically correct) will woo audiences. Sadly not. Instead of the blokey format that was a staple with The Footy Show fans, identity politics driven warriors were passed the ball to change the format.

The new version of The Footy Show debuted at 193,000 viewers, presumably people giving it a fair go to see the change. However, it quickly slumped to 96,000 in Melbourne to the then lowest print in the show’s long history. Last week hit only 53,000 TV screens. Now the show is being cancelled.

This is what happens when social justice warriors hijack the free market. If TV stations want to boost ratings, they should properly know their clients rather than pander to the left and think they can remove toxic masculinity by live indoctrination.

Married at First Sight (MAFS) would have to be some of the worst TV around but it gets ratings because it is utterly brain dead and people who’ve had a long day can zone out while watching these proms donnas scream at each other with non-PC words.

After Life

Ricky Gervais has gone back to his tried and tested formula in After Life. Saw all 6 episodes of the first series last night. He is one of the few comedians that can transcend humour into real life. His dead pan performance was so life like. It is utterly believable. Typically British too.

No spoiler alerts, but unlike Derek, this is the best bits of The Office & Extras. Hidden within his comedies is one key takeaway. The Office was all about the horrible boss we all know who is completely out of touch. Extras was a complete slaying of the sycophantic behaviour of celebrities. In After Life he takes a monster swipe at the mainstream media.

It cuts deep. You won’t be disappointed.

Attempts to abort “Unplanned” fail

Unplanned is a pro-life movie which has stormed the rankings in American cinemas in its first week despite a limited number of theatres showing it. The plot is set around the real life story of a woman, Abby Johnson, who ran a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic. She had a crisis of conscience after seeing a 13 week old termination for herself. She is now a pro-life activist.

Note that NY and other states will allow mothers to terminate babies up until immediately before delivery if they do decide. NYC even lit up monuments to celebrate the passing of the legislation.

Regardless of one’s views on a “woman’s right to choose“, seeing a movie that has no gratuitous nudity, course language, sex scenes or graphic violence shouldn’t cause consternation much less carry a R-rating. How can a 16yo girl can get an abortion without parental consent but needs an adult to see the Unplanned movie? Shouldn’t an open mind on the industry be a good thing for people to see and judge for themselves?

Twitter tried to explain away attempts to thwart the popularity of the film by claiming “glitches” in the system caused followers to be automatically unfollowed. It stands at over 310,000 followers now.

Let’s familiarize ourselves with abortion.

ABORTION STATS

c.700,000 fetuses are terminated in America each year. Down from 1.4 million in 1990. Hardly stats to cheer about. Of course the arguments for a woman’s right to choose will always be thrown at pro-lifers. Yet allowing termination until birth?

Eurostat statistics on abortion reveal that Germany, France, UK, Spain and Italy alone terminate a combined 760,000 fetuses per annum. Across the EU-28 there are 1.25mn terminations. Without getting into a debate on abortion rights, the pure statistical number points to 20.4% of fetuses never make it out of the womb alive.

According to the Guttmacher Institute some 56 million abortions occur annually. Every. Single. Year. Think that WWII saw 50 million deaths in 6 years of conflict with wide spread use of lethal weapons. So abortions kill at a far higher rate than global conflict.

Take a look at the following photos if you’re game and ask yourself whether abortion is something to celebrate? Once again, this piece isn’t a cry to exert control over women’s rights rather question society and its approach to taking more individual responsibility.

Or are we mistaken to think that the real reason NY lit up these monuments was to lament for all of the fetuses with heartbeats that never had a say in the very legislation that killed them the day of delivery? Maybe NYC should ban the film outright as it doesn’t fit the pro-choice narrative? Some states have passed laws allowing abortion to late stage pregnancy. Other states have introduced heartbeat bills preventing termination if a heartbeat is detected.

CM is not taking sides on democratic processes. Rather wondering why a film of this nature carries such fear and loathing? If abortion is nothing but a simple process why bother trying to derail a simple movie? Well that is an obvious answer. It’s way more popular than the apparatchiks want us to believe.

ABC Staff Engagement Survey – less than 50% engaged

The Morrison government is promising $44m in extra funding for the ABC for “enhanced news gathering” over 3 years. When will the Coalition realize that this treat will not make the ABC show any leniency in the lead up to the federal election? Did they even bother reading the ABC Staff Engagement Survey buried on page 94 of the 2017/18 Annual Report? Less than half are engaged.

The ABC conducted its second Corporation-wide employee engagement survey in late 2017. The previous survey was conducted in November 2015, with outcomes reported in the 2016 Annual Report.

The overall employee engagement score from the 2017 survey was 46%, down six points from the 2015 results. 6% down!!!!

This moved the ABC from the median to the bottom quartile when benchmarked with other Australian and New Zealand organisations. Bottom quartile!!!

Employees expressed the need for improvement in several areas, including:

• that the ABC Leadership Team needs to be more visible, accessible and communicate more openly.

that the ABC needs to do a better job of managing poor performance. Even the staff want to move duds on. A commercial spirit among the staff?

• that employees want to know what action is being taken to address feedback received in the survey.

The ABC management (no longer with us) conducted sessions on the back of the survey.

Three key priorities were identified from these sessions:

1. The way in which the ABC recruits, contracts, inducts, develops and manages its people needs a huge amount of work. Inefficiency!!!

2. More communication is needed between teams – employees want to know what other teams are doing, and want less top-down, hierarchical communication. Bureaucracy!!!

3. Many of the ABC’s processes, tools and technology don’t work effectively for its people. Obsolescence!!!

So instead of giving the ABC more money, perhaps an efficiency drive driven by a change manager could achieve the same outcomes desired by the market for far less cost. This reads like an organization that has too much fat.

To that effect, the annual report also noted:

Bureaucracy Stop was launched in March 2018 with the aim of creating a working environment with less bureaucracy and red tape. The program wrapped three months later with 147 ideas on simplification of processes, 55 of which were resolved by the end of the financial year. Where a simplification solution wasn’t available in response to an idea, an explanation was provided as to why that process needed to remain.

What were the dollar savings for these 55 improvements?

Maybe the government should say to ABC management for every dollar saved, the ABC keeps 50c? For a broadcaster with over $1.1bn in funding, 10% of savings would mean they keep c.$60m. Morrison’s $44mn is easily covered.

Digging a bit deeper into the stats of the ABC reveals a big need for overhaul. Comparing 2017/18 and 2015/16 we see that TV audience reach for metro fell from 55.2% to 49.7% and regional slumped from 60.3% to 54.0%. If we go back to 2007/8 the figures were 60.1% and 62.4% respectively. For the 2017/18 period, the ABC targets a 50% reach. Hardly a stretch.

Since 2008, the average salary of ABC’s staff has risen 18% from $86,908 to $105,219. Total staff numbers have risen from 4499 to 4939. Therefore salaries as a percentage of the ABC revenues have risen from 37.1% of the budget to 50%. The ABC’s ability to generate sales from content has fallen from A$140mn in 2015/16 to A$46mn last fiscal year.

The multicultural SBS has seen its budget grow from A$259mn in 2008 to A$412mn in 2017. SBS staff numbers have grown from 844 to 1,466 over the same period with average salaries rising from A$82,689 to A$88,267 or 7.2%. Which begs the question why is the SBS able to operate at 31% of the budget in salaries while the ABC is at 50%? Surely the ABC’s economies of scale should work in its favour? Clearly not.

Australia’s largest commercial terrestrial station, Nine Network, has 3,100 employees against revenues of $1.237bn. So to put that into context, Nine can generate c. A$400,000 per employee whereas the ABC generates A$238,168 in tax dollars per employee. In a sense the ABC could be shut down, and each employee paid $108,000 in redundancy costs annually for two years simply by selling off the land, buildings and infrastructure. The SBS generates A$281,000 in tax dollars per employee. The ABC will argue it deserves $400,000/employee revenues rather than a 46% headcount reduction to be on equal terms with the efficiency in the private sector.

Stop throwing more money at the problem and get an aggressive MD who will make a real difference. Pay him/her millions to save $100s of millions. The taxpayer deserves no less. So do over half the 5,000 employees at the ABC who are dissatisfied with the very organization which is so terribly run.
