BLM activist wins Missouri Dem primary

In Missouri’s heavily Democrat-leaning 1st congressional district, which includes St. Louis, BLM activist Cori Bush has defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. Lacy Clay after she lost to him by 20 points in the 2018 primary. On Aug 4th, Bush received 49% of the vote to Clay’s 46%.

Bush has been endorsed by Bernie Sanders who said, “She is a true progressive who stands with working people and will take on the corporate elite of this country when she gets to Congress.”

Senator Sanders, we do think it slightly amusing that Bush posed for a photograph outside a Mercedes-Benz sponsored event.

Palestinian American activist Linda Sarsour also retweeted a post quoting Cori Bush’s statement confirming she “has always been sympathetic to the BDS movement” –  the boycott, divestment and sanction campaign against Israel.

In a recent video message to Muslims, Bush pledged to oppose President Trump’s “Muslim ban,” and “an end to U.S. imperialism, endless wars and policies of destabilization in the Middle East and in Muslim-majority countries.”

She added that “not only are we standing up for black lives, but for oppressed people everywhere, be they Palestinian, Afghani, Somali, Pakistani, Yemeni, Syrian, or Jewish, both here at home and abroad…Our people have a shared experience of dehumanization, a shared experience of aggressive policing, state violence, hyper-surveillance, racism and xenophobia…this has to change.”

Strange Bush included Jewish people when she openly supports a group that is anti-Israel.

More evidence of the hard left taking over the Democrats? Not so fast…

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is up against Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones who she narrowly defeated in 2018 for the Michigan 13th congressional district.

As we mentioned recently, Squad member Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was not endorsed by the state’s largest newspaper the Star Tribune, criticizing her unethical behaviour.

Also, Obama did not include Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in his endorsements for NY Democrats.

The last member of the Squad, Ayanna Pressley is up for her primary on September 1st. She unseated 10-term incumbent Rep. Michael Capuano in 2018. Pressley is infamous for making the following remarks – which Joe Biden would undoubtedly approve given his recent gaffe:

“We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice. We don’t need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don’t want to be a queer voice.”

Good on Goya CEO for standing up to the cancel culture mob

Goya Foods deserves every success. CEO Bob Unanue praised Trump which caused several unhinged Democrats to openly encourage people to boycott the brand. How easily they forgot when Unanue helped Michelle Obama with her healthy eating initiative in 2012.

Failed Democrat presidential primary candidate Julian Castro wrote on Twitter,

@GoyaFoods has been a staple of so many Latino households for generations. Now their CEO, Bob Unanue, is praising a president who villainizes and maliciously attacks Latinos for political gain. Americans should think twice before buying their products. #Goyaway

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) also joined in. She tweeted,

Oh look, it’s the sound of me Googling ‘how to make your own Adobo.

The Democrats are clinically insane. So deeply entrenched is their hatred of Trump that even when an American citizen from a minority background exercises his free speech – which disobeys their doctrine of what he should say – they retaliate like this.

We think Democrat Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley sums up the mentality of the Democratic platform when she said,

“We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice. We don’t need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don’t want to be a queer voice.

We truly hope Americans rally to the cause and boost Goya’s sales to let other corporations know that having the guts to stand up to the mob actually rewards their bottom line rather than panic that it might be boycotted.

These Democrats have absolutely none of the “right stuff” to run a country.

NYPD Blues – 411% surge in cops quitting the force

It seems that NYPD officers are quitting in force after Mayor Bill DeBlasio said he’d cut $1 billion off its budget.

Yesterday the NYPD claimed that 179 cops filed for retirement between June 29 and Monday, a 411% increase over the 35 who quit during the same time period in 2019.

One NYPD cop said, “There’s just droves and droves of people retiring. But there’s no surprise here, who the hell wants to stay on this job?…Why would you want to stay on this job when people don’t appreciate what you do?”

Between June 29 and July 5, NYC saw 74 shooting incidents with 101 victims versus 26 shootings with 33 victims during that time last year. Meanwhile, 18 people were murdered in NYC last week — 6 more than the same period last year.

Defund the police? Seems like De Blasio will have to Defend the NYPD soon before he has a crimewave on his hands.

What happened when Baltimore went soft on crime

Arrests chg

In April 2015, a black man by the name of Freddie Gray died from injuries sustained in a police van. His death sparked outrage and riots in Baltimore. The 6 officers (3 black, 3 white) who faced trial for his death were either acquitted or had the charges dropped.

According to Larry Elder, despite claims that the city was suffering from systemic racism at the time of his death, the mayor of Baltimore City was black, the AG was black, the police chief was black, his deputy was black, the majority of the command centre was black and the city council members were predominantly black and all Democrat. We shouldn’t forget that the US president was also black.

As a result of the riots that followed Gray’s death, the Baltimore City Police Department (BCPD) went soft on crime. Police actions fell off a cliff. Arrests had been declining for years but decelerated even quicker post-2015.

From 2014 to 2017, dispatch records show the number of field interviews fell 70%. Suspected narcotics offences reported by police fell 30%. The number of people BCPD reported seeing with outstanding warrants dropped by half.  The acting police commissioner admitted, “In all candour, officers are not as aggressive as they once were, pre-2015. It’s just that fact.

Rape surged.

Rapes

Homicides exploded. In 2017, Baltimore hit its highest per-capita murder rate ever. It was double Chicago’s rate and in absolute numbers higher than New York, a city 14 times as populous.

Homicides

An informal survey of 15% of BCPD officers taken by the council showed that officers were afraid to make arrests in the aftermath. A third of those surveyed had served in BCPD for over 20 years.

40% said they felt “inadequately trained

43% said they do not feel “comfortable making self-initiated arrests

68% said they do not feel “city leadership supports law enforcement.”

74% said they “feel restricted by the consent decree,”

78% said they felt the department had “lowered hiring standards.

One officer responded, “Morale won’t rise until the Department and its officers receive consistent public support from the Mayor, City Council and State’s Attorney. No one is asking that corruption be tolerated. What we are asking is that when we investigate crimes and make arrests or issue citations that our elected leaders support us when we encounter resistance.

Another mentioned, “We don’t have enough people in my unit. The volume of cases we have is absurd given our manpower. It leads to mistakes, and inadequate follow up investigations which lead to sloppy prosecutions. None of which is for lack of trying.

A shortage of funds? The budget for the BCPD has grown from $455 million in FY2015 to $536 million for FY2020, begging the question of why arrests and prosecution of crime haven’t matched the increased spending?

When analysing the breakdown of the BCPD budget, composition matters. Police patrolling will decline from $253 million in 2015 to $202 million in the 2020 budget. The number of police allocated to patrol will fall from 1,851 to 1,363 during the same period. Administration expenses will jump from $44 million to $94 million. Crime investigation will rise from $52 million to $53 million off from the low of $35 million in 2019.

Just as we saw with our study on fire services around Australia at the time of the bushfires, more money doesn’t always lead to better outcomes if those custodians don’t have the skills to sensibly allocate those extra dollars.

Like many government bureaus or departments, it doesn’t appear to be a question of just throwing more money at policing but far better stewardship of funds, a more defined focus of mission and a council that supports law enforcement by cutting red tape which leads to the types of outcomes that benefit the community at large.

Woke policing doesn’t work. Baltimore is proof.
