United Van Lines publishes net migration between states in 2020

Net Migration by State in 2020

America’s largest removal company, United Van Lines, released its 44th Annual National Migration Study, revealing in 2020, Americans continued to move westbound and southbound.

This year’s survey results indicated 40% of Americans who moved did so for a new job or job transfer (down from prior years), and more than one in four (27%) moved to be closer to family (which is significantly up over prior years).

Data from March to October 2020 also revealed the COVID-19 pandemic influenced Americans’ decisions to move. For customers who cited COVID-19 as an influence on their move in 2020, the top reasons associated with COVID-19 were concerns for personal and family health and wellbeing (60%); desires to be closer to family (59%); 57% moved due to changes in employment status or work arrangement (including the ability to work remotely); and 53% desired a lifestyle change or improvement of quality of life.

COVID Death Rates by State per 100,000 residents

8 of the 12 states with the highest COVID death rates per 100,000 are Democrat-run. Conversely 7 of the smallest rates were also Democrat-controlled. Note this is not sheer numbers. So even South Dakota (R) which has had no lockdowns and a 171/100,000 death rate due to COVID, ranked 4th in net migration.

United classifies states as “high inbound” if 55% or more of the moves are going into a state. 11 of 17 states that fell into that category were Republican-controlled.

In states where at least 250 total moves were made, Republican-controlled states accounted for 10 of the top 12 inbound destinations. Democrat-controlled states accounted for 7 out of 12 in the net outbound category.

Florida (R) took in the most new inbound moves with a net 2,354. North Carolina (D) +1,370, Arizona (R) +1,071, Texas (R) +1,053 and South Carolina (R) +900.

California (D) the worst with -2,888 (net outbound), followed by Illinois (D) -1,898, New Jersey (D) -1,377 and New York (D) -993.

In gross figures, Republican-held states captured net 6,117 inbound moves with Democrat-controlled states seeing net 5,688 inbound moves in 2020.

What will 2021 bring?

NY legislator’s loony plans to detain people for 2 months if they pose health risk

MRCTV’s Britt Hughes discusses NY’s latest plans to forcibly detain people for 2 months without a court order on suspicion of contracting or having come in contact with anyone inflected with COVID or another deadly/infectious disease.

When will people start pushing back on this nonsense?

Then again NY is no stranger to out of touch officials when it comes to handling COVID.

Three things spring to mind.

1) NY Gov Andrew Cuomo accepted the International Emmy Founders Award for his COVID19 response. Woke celebrities then lavished him with praise in a completely out of touch cringe fest.

The International Emmy Awards tweeted,

Gov Andrew M Cuomo of NY will receive the International Emmy Founders Award in recognition of his leadership during the Covid19 pandemic & his masterful use of TV to inform & calm people around the world.

How telling that the Emmy’s focused on delivery as opposed to results.

How ironic that Cuomo not only laid claim to the most disastrous COVID19 stats of any state but mandated COVID positive patients into nursing homes which directly led to the deaths of 6,000 elderly residents. Don’t tell anyone they conducted their own ‘independent audit’ and found the government not at fault. Who knew?

2) NY Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot openly welcomed BLM protests despite the lockdowns. Mark D Levine, Chairman, NYC Council health committee, went more woke stating, “Let’s be clear about something: if there is a spike in coronavirus cases in the next two weeks, don’t blame the protesters. Blame racism,

3) or NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio’s wife doing a cringeworthy ‘stay at home’ unity dance despite NY businesses getting destroyed.

Remember it is all about the science

Remember, it is all about the science. NY Gov Cuomo squashes small businesses again calling for a two week ban on dining indoors.

Freedom is slavery. Up is down. War is peace. Don’t believe your lying eyes.

JP Sears did another video on the futility of putting the jackboot on the neck of small businesses. It is for our own good, apparently.

NYC Mayor Deblasio’s wife in cringeworthy unity video

Aren’t these the people telling the rest of us to behave like adults and that staying at home is for our own good?

Sure, a dance will soften the blow of NYC businesses and staff crushed financially under the weight of often baseless unscientific draconian rules. Not. Maybe when one collects a public sector paycheck regardless of stage of lockdown, one can gladly glide down the stairs without a care in the world.

Video here.

Cringeworthy Celebrities celebrate NY Gov Cuomo’s Emmy Award

You can’t make this stuff up.

NY Gov Andrew Cuomo accepted the International Emmy Founders Award for his COVID19 response.

Even worse Cuomo ordered the NY Health Dept to conduct an independent review of the disastrous policy and amazingly it found no fault in his leadership. Who knew self audits would produce such results?

So poor was Cuomo’s response during the crisis that many wealthy folk responsible for 50% of NYC’s tax revenue left the city which saw the NY Gov issue a cringeworthy video pleading for them to come back promising to buy them a drink or cook for them to get them to pay taxes.

Perhaps even more pathetic was his attempt to over-regulate on what constituted a meal in bars when local businesses tried to innovate with cheap “Cuomo Chips” to drive patronage. Oh, no you don’t. One must have a proper meal and Cuomo’s team will tell you what makes the grade.

So arrogant has Cuomo’s leadership been that he had a poster commissioned which highlighted the supposed successes of his COVID response.

After all this, just how out of touch is Cuomo to accept the award by a body that is as clueless as the Emmys for even considering it? We guess it proves that black is white, up is down and war is peace. Just don’t believe your lying eyes.

How will NYC DA view rape in broad daylight?

At what point does society stop functioning? Where determining between who is the victim and then who is the perpetrator becomes back to front.

This is what defunding the police assists. While the NYC mayor was only too eager to deploy 27 officers to guard the BLM mural outside of Trump Tower, should we be surprised to see a leap in crime with such a misallocation of resources?

In broad daylight, on a NY subway platform, the transit arm of the NYPD were unable to stop a thug who attempted to rape a woman. Presumably, discretion is no longer required in de Blasio’s NYC. The criminals clearly don’t fear the new normal of policing.

Are bystanders now too worried to physically intervene for fear they might be incriminated for being decent human beings? Maybe in de Blasio’s whacky world, citizens are more at risk of being charged with assault for taking out such human garbage?

Truth stranger than fiction?

The latest noises emanating from the halls of some DA offices give some cause for concern. Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton has said that the police should consider whether looters needed those stolen goods before charging them. Presumably a 60′ flat panel TV is an inalienable right. Although those that decade a BLM mural are charged with a ‘hate crime..’

Presumably attempted rape may be forgiven if an activist DA can link it to systemic racism or decades of oppression? How many times in recent months have criminals – with records as long as the River Nile – been deified? One was buried in a gold casket and a university considered naming a scholarship after one of these career criminals. By that logic, Ted Bundy should have a memorial building dedicated to psychiatry named after him.

Sports stars are taking knees, striking and cloaking themselves in BLM messaging while the leagues gladly pick on players who stray from script.

They’re standing up for people that have committed sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, drug offences, firearm offences, trespassing, outstanding warrants and holding guns to the belly of a pregnant woman. When they disobey orders from the police and face the obvious consequences, woke politicians waste no time siding with the criminals and activist DAs are quick to tamper with evidence to create narratives.

Instead of sticking up for minorities, why not just stand up for what is right, regardless of melanin.

Cuomo to Rich New Yorkers – “Please come back”

The wealthiest 1% of NYS’ population contributes roughly 50% of the state’s coffers. Gov. Andrew Cuomo took to begging the rich to return to NYC from their second homes so they can pay taxes to fill the dwindling reserves. He said,

I literally talk to people all day long who are now in their Hamptons house who also lived here, or in their Hudson Valley house, or in their Connecticut weekend house, and I say, ‘You got to come back! We’ll go to dinner! I’ll buy you a drink! Come over, I’ll cook!’…They’re not coming back right now. And you know what else they’re thinking? ‘If I stay there, I’ll pay a lower income tax,’ because they don’t pay the New York City surcharge…

At the very least, Cuomo was smart enough to tell his largely Democrat-controlled legislature that raising taxes further on the rich probably wasn’t a wise idea.

If you pass a piece of legislation that requires New York to raise taxes, raise a millionaires’ tax in this environment in New York City, where we’re struggling … We used to be worried [with a] millionaires’ tax, people might leave…We’re going to make progress helping the homeless. We’re going to clean up the graffiti. We’re going to fix crime. On top of that, you’re going to say, ‘And by the way, when you come back, you get a big tax increase.’

Who knew? We are not sure of the culinary talent of the NY governor but if it is anything like his political acumen, it could well end up being a deterrent.

Incompetence claims a victim of Identity Politics

Remember our piece about NYC Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot? You know, the individual who strongly encouraged NYers to mingle during Lunar New Year and publicly stated there was no risk of catching the ‘rona on public transport. After all Trump was misinformed on coronavirus and it was unfair to stigmatize the Asian community.

As infections soared, Barbot was still able to retweet more important self-congratulation on her “expertise, commitment and incredible strength during COVID-19” and being the first Latina to head NYC Health. Like any of that mattered to NYers.

After the NYPD chief of department requested masks for officers she told him,

I don’t give two rats’ asses about your cops…I need them for others.”

Barbot resigned on Tuesday citing differences with Mayor Bill de Blasio.

I leave my post today with deep disappointment that during the most critical public health crisis in our lifetime, that the Health Department’s incomparable disease control expertise was not used to the degree it could have beenIt has been an honor and privilege to serve at the helm of an agency with its long and distinguished history in promoting and protecting New Yorkers health through ordinary times and during some of the most challenging moments in our city’s history. I am proud that as a woman of color raised in public housing in this city, I always put public health, racial equity and the well-being of the city I love first.

Mayor de Blasio responded,

You’re going to have disagreements along the way…It had been clear certainly in recent days that it was time for a change, and really about how we move forwardIn any team, there’s going to be different viewpoints, but the most important thing is the product, the most important thing is the outcome.

The outcome under de Blasio has produced the worst statistics in the country by far. Perhaps if Barbot and the mayor cast aside their hatred of the president and focused on the mission based on medical expertise rather than prioritizing identity politics, things might have turned out differently.

Who would have guessed gun crime would get out of control?

Surely those bright spark Democrat mayors in NYC, Chicago, Portland and Minnesota can work out that defunding the police might cause a spike in crime and gun violence? That curtailing what actions are at the disposal of the police would hand these cities over to the criminals.

There have been 777 shootings in NYC in 2020, one more than the 776 that took place in 2019.

Murders in Chicago more than doubled compared to the same month last year, according to the Chicago PD. In 2020 there have been 430 homicides. In July, murders are up 139%YoY.

In Minnesota, gun violence is up 72%YoY. Mayor Jacob Frey said., “Year-to-date this has been a higher shooting victim total than the last five years, with 288 victims. The next closest is 2016 with 178.

In Portland gun violence is up 4-fold. From July 1-13 there have been 42 shootings vs 11 in the same period last year.

And guess what, NY State Governor Andrew Cuomo has admitted concern that wealthy taxpayers could leave NY for good.

Roadway Moving President Ross Sapir has said his company has experienced its busiest season ever since it was founded. United Van Lines CEO Marc Rogers also said over 60% of those leaving NY are earning north of $100,000.

Tax collections have plummeted during coronavirus, falling 42% in June. Losing the wealthy for good could leave gaping holes in the budget. Cuomo might argue they left over COVID-19 but soaring gun crime is hardly an inducement to return after the pandemic passes.

Still, these Dems keep assuring us, “we’ve got this under control.”

Am I a Despot or Not?

We have compiled a spreadsheet titled US State Governor Coronavirus Responsesto see who would appear to have the most despotic tendencies. We have broken down the categories by party affiliation, COVID19 infections, deaths and some choice quotes to express how some treat their minions. However there is one true standout governor that must be channeling former Albanian dictator Enver Hoxha for despotic tendencies.

Before we get accused of being partisan hacks, we note that in some states, governors have seemingly crossed their political ideologies in the opposite direction.

On balance, Republican governors have been far more eager to open up their economies and remove restrictions. Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota all resisted issuing stay-at-home orders, while Wyoming, Utah, Oklahoma and South Carolina have only issued such orders in specific parts of their states. All nine are Republican states. Most of these states encouraged “personal responsibility.

Infection rates in the aforementioned 9 rogue states stand at only 0.2886% and death rates are at 0.0096%. The relatively spread out nature of these states no doubt helped. Instead of the predictions that death rates would spiral out of control, 99.99% of the population in these states continue to function.

On the other hand, Democrat governors have had far harsher restrictions with respect to stay at home laws. Some may argue that the population densities of New York skew the figures.

Analysing the data, 178.7 million Americans live in the 24 (+1) Democrat-run states (districts). 149.5 million in 26 Republican-controlled states. COVID-19 infections in Democrat states is at 1.07 million with deaths at 70,652. Republican-controlled states have 456,000 infections and only 21,700 deaths. That means that Democrat states have a 0.5995% infection rate and 0.0395% death rate vs Republicans at 0.3049% and 0.0145% respectively, or effectively half. Stripping out NY for the Democrats would kick those figures to 0.4452% and 0.0262%. This would mean that infection rates were still 46% and death rates 80% higher relatively speaking.

The mainstream media wasted no time pointing out the negligence of GOP states and the shocking reckoning that would follow.

Partisan paper, The Kansas City Star, lambasted Missouri Gov. Mike Parsons (R) on April 1. They contrasted his failures to the successes of NY Gov Cuomo (D), Kansas Gov Kelly (D) & Illinois Gov Pritzker (D) by saying, “Only three other governors in the country have been as laissez-faire as Parson has in dealing with a crisis the likes of which no one alive today has ever seen — and one that will define the legacy of most every elected official now serving.” 6 weeks after this prophecy, 99.99% of Missourians haven’t succumbed to COVID-19 vs 99.994% in Kansas, 99.96% in Illinois and NY at 99.85%. Hardly a train wreck for Parsons!

Perhaps what is scarier is the “staged approach” methodology to removing restrictions which do not seem to be based on robust scientific evidence but copying thy neighbour’s homework. Take a look at some of the gradual loosening of Australia’s restrictions and it smacks of the same “one size fits all” approach in many states in the US. e.g. 10 people only in restaurants. Social distancing etc. Hardly inspiring to have such a lack of independent thinking. Especially when the coronavirus statistics to date are anything remotely as reported in the hysteric media.

Enough from us. Let’s get down to the approaches of these American states.

The most in your face comment during the coronavirus came from Indiana Republican Rep. Trey Hollingsworth.

It is policymakers’ decision to put on our big boy and big girl pants and say it is the lesser of these two evils…It is not zero evil, but it is the lesser of these two evils, and we intend to move forward that direction…We are going to have to look Americans in the eye and say, ‘We are making the best decisions for the most Americans possible,’ and the answer to that is to get Americans back to work, to get Americans back to their businesses

We wonder why data means nothing to Hawaiian Gov David Ige (D)?

Hawaii has a 0.0012% COVID death rate, one of the lowest in the country but Democrat Gov. David Ige pushed the stay at home order to the end of June. Furthermore, in the first month, the Honolulu Police Department handed out 4,600 warnings and 353 citations for breaches of the executive order.

What on earth was Tampa Bay, Florida Mayor Castor (D) thinking?

Tampa Bay, Florida Mayor Jane Castor (Democrat) released 160 prisoners from Hillsborough County Jail over concerns of COVID-19. One prisoner ended up killing a civilian the day after being released.

New Jersey Gov. Murphy (D) & Kentucky Gov. Beshear (D) showed little or no care about the constitution.

In an interview with Fox NewsTucker Carlson, Democrat Gov. Philip Murphy (D) uttered the words “the Bill of Rights is above my pay grade.” He then went on to confess that he had not considered the effect of his restrictive executive orders on the Bill of Rights.U.S.

District Judge William Bertelsman ruled in May that Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s (D) restrictions on out-of-state travel were unconstitutional.

We were surprised to see Colorado Gov. Polis (D) adopt seemingly Republican style freedoms to his constituents.

Democrat Gov. Jared Polis spoke of Coloradans taking “personal responsibility“. Instead of imposing draconian police state penalties like most of his Democrat colleagues he left it to local authorities to sort out.

Mayor Hicks (D) of Grants, New Mexico decided to take a potshot at his Democratic Governor accusing her of adopting Nazi Germany style tactics.

Hicks criticised Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Public Health Orders saying, “What the governor is doing is wrong” He allowed small business and golf courses to open before state police intervened and shut him down. He likened the New Mexico State Police behaving like the Gestapo.

It wasn’t just Democrats either. Republican primary candidate Daniel McCarthy took a swipe at Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) saying, “No empathy! Dictator Ducey tacked on another 15 days of shutdowns, leaving Arizonans wondering why our own governor is so comfortable letting lives and businesses be crushed under the weight of our new regime.

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo (D) took the technology initiative much like Australia’s COVIDSafe app.

An app, called “Crush COVID RI” will be used by state health experts to conduct contact tracing and better understand the spread of the virus across the state.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) is the standout in terms of constituents openly pouring out love to her.

Gov. Noem was presented with a surprise parade by her constituents thanking her for her considered actions in response to putting the responsibility back on them.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) slammed the judiciary for its pettiness.

After a Texas hairdresser was jailed for not apologizing to the judge because she reopened her salon during lockdown, Gov Abbott said, “Throwing Texans in jail who have had their businesses shut down through no fault of their own is nonsensical, and I will not allow it to happen.” She was released.

Gov Cooper (D) of North Carolina copped a slap on the wrist from the judiciary

A federal judge blocked enforcement of a portion of Cooper’s order preventing churches from holding indoor services attended by more than 10 people.

Virginia’s Liberty University used the Bible to criticise Gov Ralph Northam’s (D) criticisms.

We invite Governor Northam (D) to come and see our compliance for himself, rather than making false accusations in press conferences from Richmond. As the Ninth Commandment says, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.””

Democrat-controlled Wisconsin Chief Justice Patience Roggensack probably could have chosen her words more carefully.

Roggensack was blasted for her remarks saying the uptick in coronavirus cases in Brown County was due to meatpacking employees testing positive and not “regular folks.” Take that you lowly educated Trump-voting deplorables.

There were many governors channelling Enver Hoxha for despotic tendencies. The reality is that more mayors were enjoying their newfound powers.

We had LA Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) proudly champion he would have the water and electricity cut off for any businesses that didn’t comply with the lockdown. He also proudly banned sunbathing on dry sand, citing Australia as his benchmark.

We had Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) justify having a haircut (considered non-essential to everyone else) because of her regular TV appearances despite berating Chicagoans like children with the threat of the heavy hand of the CPD to anyone who violated stay-at-home orders.

NY Mayor Bill De Blasio had his failed, “dob in your neighbour hotline“, his use of the gym (considered non-essential to everyone else) and the threat to fence off the beach at Coney Island were the peons to misbehave.

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) threatened to get compliance from her minions by “exercising the full force of our MPD, FEMS, DC Health and ABRA and the emergency authority to achieve it.

NY Governor Andrew Cuomo extended the stay at home directive called PAUSE—which stands for “Policies Assure Uniform Safety for Everyone” til June 13th. As most know, NY has had the highest incidences of infections and deaths throughout the country. The high density of NYC compounded the problem.

He ordered that infected patients be sent to the nursing homes which caused a huge spike in deaths. There are now reports that the data was fiddled to cover up the scandal. He has since stopped sending people back to nursing homes. He said, “Older people, vulnerable people, are going to die from this virus…That is going to happen. Despite whatever you do.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) pandered to racism and many other issues from the identity politics playbook to disguise the fact she is being sued by other state legislators for extending the executive orders without their approval. Protestors that descended on Lansing complained they were sick of being treated like small children. 99.5% of Michigan residents haven’t been infected with coronavirus. 99.95% haven’t died.

Alas, Gov. Katie Brown (D) of Oregon has shown herself to be the most despotic leader. Despite 99.92% of Oregonians not being infected and 99.997% not having succumbed to the virus she had no compunction ramming her rule of law. Oregon has less than 4% of the infection rate and 2% of the death rate of NY State yet Brown has kept an “indefinite” stay at home order in place.

An Oregon judge declared that the coronavirus restrictions enacted by Gov. Brown were “null and void” because her emergency orders were not approved by the state legislature after 28 days. The judge agreed with the lawsuit launched by 10 churches against the State of Oregon which argued that the emergency powers only lasted for a month and that to lengthen them required legislative approval which she did not seek!

Not to be outdone, Gov. Brown went to the State Supreme Court where she has a pending review. The Governor praised the Supreme Court action by saying, “There are no shortcuts for us to return to life as it was before this pandemic. Moving too quickly could return Oregon to the early days of this crisis when we braced ourselves for hospitals to be overfilled.

A bit of an odd statement when the number of people hospitalised in Oregon with COVID19 has fallen 63% in the last month to May 12th to 57 people.

Worst of all was her treatment of hair salon owner Lindsey Graham who was fined $14,000 for opening her store because it was a non-essential business. She was further threatened with the prospect of having her lease terminated as she operated out of a building owned by the State of Oregon. The final straw was the dispatch of child protection services to Graham’s home to interrogate her 6-yo stepson and check if bathroom sanitation (aka the cleanliness under the toilet seat) was up to standard.

No one questions the tragic loss of life from this pandemic. We just question the heavy-handed tactics of governors and mayors who have a twisted version of data which is completely at odds with reality. This is all about politics.
