Who knew? Former Empire actor, Jussie Smollett, tried to revive his career by staging a hate crime hoax. So spectacularly did it backfire that he was charged on all 16 counts including lying to the police.
Lucky for Smollett, the powers that be called in some favors and Cook County DA Kim Foxx let him off with a small fine and some community service.
So livid were the Chicago PD that they appealed the miscarriage of justice.
Now, Smollett insists that he was the victim of a “set up,” and that he has two new witnesses to prove that he did not stage a racist and homophobic attack on himself in January of last year, but that he was, in fact, accosted by two white men wearing “Make America Great Again” caps.
Wow. How come he didn’t bring this evidence or witnesses at the time of his trial?!? Maybe their cheques hadn’t cleared.
He needn’t worry. So non-existent is systemic racism that others have had to stage their own hate crime hoaxes to help in their political campaigning.
Democratic political candidate, Jonathan Lopez, penned and posted a letter to himself and took his claim of a hate crime to the police who quickly discovered the hoax in its investigation.
Sabrina Belcher, 29, who was running in the mayoral election in Sumter, SC was arrested and charged by Sumter PD with filing a false police report of a felony and conspiracy after she reported she had been kidnapped.
Stupid is as stupid does.
