In California opposing a Marxist group is now a hate crime

California, true to form, showed its totalitarian roots.

A couple that painted over a Black Lives Matter mural that was approved by the city of Martinez have been charged with a hate crime. The release notes “defacing” with “black paint” which somehow relates to “systemic racism.” We imagine that given bitumen is black, that colour paint was the best hue to mask the mural.

Who knew that opposing a Marxist group is now a federal offense in California?

Unfortunately we had another woke District Attorney Diana Becton flex her political beliefs in the statement rather than apply the law objectively. Where have we seen this before? Three examples spring to mind.

1) Fulton County DA Paul Howard is pushing the death penalty for former Atlanta Police officer Garrett Rolfe in the death of Rayshard Brooks despite the evidence. How convenient that he is up for re-election and fighting allegations of sexual harassment and a toxic work environment. Also note that The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has opened an investigation of Howard and his use of a nonprofit to funnel at least $140,000 in city of Atlanta funds to supplement his salary.

2) Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx ruled emphatically that Empire actor Jussie Smollett was guilty beyond doubt but dropped all 16 charges related to his hate crime hoax despite the unnecessary $100,000 cost to the Chicago Police. How ironic that Michelle Obama’s former chief-of-staff called Foxx to discuss the concern of the Smollett family. Foxx never recused herself on conflict of interest grounds, however the end result certainly gives rise to suspicions favours were called in.

3) St Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner said she would find a way to charge the McCloskeys for defending their home with automatic weapons when 500 BLM protestors trespassed on their gated private property. Gardner said, “Make no mistake: we will not tolerate the use of force against those exercising their First Amendment rights, and will use the full power of Missouri law to hold [the McCloskeys] accountable.”

Forget objective judiciary’s when DAs are unabashed activists.

As an aside, all four attorneys listed above are Democrats that happen to be black. This is an observation based on fact.

We are confident that there have been activist attorneys of other party affiliations and races over the years. So much for independence and fair trials when DAs push for an outcome without the presumption of innocence. A sad indictment indeed.

Surely to end systemic racism, applying laws based on identity won’t be the answer.

Six F-1 drivers take a stand against hypocrisy

Before the Austrian F-1 GP, Max Verstappen, Antonio Giovinazzi, Daniil Kvyat, Carlo Sainz, Charles Leclerc and Kimi Raikkonen chose to stand while 14 other drivers took the knee in support of BLM.

Good to see that some sports stars aren’t prepared to be shamed into political stunts especially one driven (no pun intended) by one of the biggest hypocrites in the paddock, who drives for a manufacturer with a history of slavery.

As we pointed out last week, Aussie driver Daniel Ricciardo perfectly summed up the fear of being cancelled for not speaking up.

Here’s betting all 14 kneelers haven’t even read the reprehensible Marxist manifesto of #BLM movement they knelt for.

We can’t wait for the next woke cause. It will probably be surrounding climate change. Just think of how mothers dropping their kids off to soccer practice in a second hand SUVs will be chastised by these F-1 kneelers as they whiz around tracks in 5mpg race cars. Never mind that they came to the circuit in helicopters after landing at a nearby airport on private jets post spending half the season in coronavirus lockdown on 300ft super yachts with bikini clad supermodels.

LA residents tell Mayor Garcetti what they think about his fireworks ban

Last week, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (Democrat) demanded that residents cancel their July 4th celebrations outlawing firework shows in Los Angeles County, according to KABC-TV in order to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Good to see they returned serve.

Trump flips the bird at the self-loathing left

Just brilliant. Instead of cowering to the mob with political correctness, Trump announces he is building a national garden full of statues celebrating American heroes. Love really will “Trump” hate.

Liberal heads must be exploding. Basically the message to these self-loathing lefties pulling down monuments – I’m going to build a bigger memorial which unites America by displaying the country’s exceptionalism.

The softest part of any true patriotic American is a pride in its achievements, devotion to country and flag.

No doubt the left will criticize the people chosen to be erected on the basis of identity politics which in a sense shows that they really do like monuments after all.

Trump – master of the troll.

The truth hurts

What a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive!

How ironic that the papers that practice social justice the hardest have the most troubled pasts.

The Guardian was founded by a slave owner. The NY Times founding editor wrote an editorial which supported the right of slave owners to recover escaped slaves according to Prager University.

What I know about women – Malcolm Turnbull

Oh boy! Today’s copy of the Sun Herald is so thin that the lift out section had this article from our former PM Malcolm Turnbull on what he knows about women. Enjoy.

Seems more like a promotion of his autobiography which is available on Amazon at 47% off. If you get a copy of the book for Christmas it is probably a sign of what the giver really thinks about you.

A different perspective on the NBA

Larry Elder takes another view of the types of issues the NBA should reflect on rather than go woke.

Are we witnessing sporting suicide?

People used to be able to watch sports in order to be able escape financial stress, relationship pressure, horrible bosses or politics for a couple of hours. Now politics comes as standard and is being actively shoved straight in paying customers’ faces.

The NBA has just announced it will paint “Black Lives Matter” on the courtside.

Retired NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley explained why he thought it is a bad idea for the NBA to do it based on the divisive manifesto of BLM.

This follows on from the NFL’s pandering to identity politics and promotion of segregation by introducing a “black national anthem” before Week 1 games.

As one astute reader posted this with respect to the NFL post we wrote today,

If this causes a loss of attendance will the excuse be that those missing were therefore racist? And how does that help pay the bills? What will be the steps taken to address shortfalls in revenue ? Presumably reductions in salaries and jobs to those whose livelihood depends on the attendance?

This is a very emotive issue and no one is denying that it is not an important one but enforcing dictats onto paying customers is never a good idea – asking for help to change is better than demanding change and alienating a section of society who for the most part were already onside -you cannot force their cooperation – you will just make reasonable people unreasonable.

We think the NBA and NFL are making extremely poor decisions. As corporations they have that right but since when has treating customers with contempt been a good strategy?? Gillette anyone?

We wrote a piece on the divisive nature of sports being ruined by political activism a few weeks back.

NFL turning the playing field into a political football

The NFL is making all the missteps to destroy the franchise. It thinks that introducing segregation will solve for racism.

The NFL is planning to play “Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,” dubbed the “Black national anthem,” ahead of “Star Spangled Banner‘ before all Week 1 games. Watch this become ahead of every game.

Why don’t Hispanics or other minorities that were victims of police brutality get their anthem played too? What about the trans community? Are they any less worthy?

According to ESPN, the NFL is also considering “listing the names of victims on uniforms through decals on helmets or patches on jerseys” and will likely “produce educational programs about the victims.”

What if some of those victims were armed and shooting at police? Will they be honoured? Will their true histories be taught or airbrushed as defenseless martyrs?

Before the NFL starts virtue signaling how “with the times” it is, do fans want to be lectured to by a league where 713 different players between 2000-2014 have been arrested for the following shocking list of charges – rape, murders, shootings, animal cruelty, prostitution rings, assault, robbery, illegal gun possession, DUI and resisting arrest.

Maybe list the names of those 713 players on uniforms for their crimes first.

There isn’t a soul on the planet who isn’t aware of what is going on. For the overwhelming majority of those who condemn racism, why do the left think drumming ever more sanctimonious activism is necessary? If the belief is such tokenism will swing racists, this identity politics based tribalism will force the exact opposite outcome of that intended. Shaming doesn’t work, especially if wrapped in hypocrisy.

Will the left demand the US Army change the names of helicopters?

Now the left is piling on to force a name change on the Washington Redskins despite the fact that 90% of Native Americans showing no offense, will they demand that the US Army ditch the names of all the helicopters – the AH-64 Apache, the UH-1 Iroquois, the CH-58 Kiowa Warrior, H-13 Sioux, RAH-66 Comanche, UH-60 Black Hawk, CH-47 Chinook and the UH-72 Lakota – named after Native American tribes?

For context, the H-13 Sioux was named in honor of the Native Americans who fought Army soldiers in the Sioux Wars and defeated the 7th Calvary Regiment at the Battle of Little Bighorn.

The Department of Defense noted,

Native Americans also served as some of the fiercest fighters for the United States for more than 200 years. In fact, 32 Native Americans have earned the nation’s highest military award, the Medal of Honor.

The tradition of naming helicopters after Native Americans was once an official regulation. That regulation no longer stands, but the tradition continues.

Yes, Army Regulation 70-28 was created in 1969. The regulation listed criteria on how popular names would be given to major items of equipment. Helicopter names required approval from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

These names had to promote confidence in the abilities, the aggressive spirit, tactical application of the helicopter and not sacrifice dignity. It was an honour. Not a slight. The helicopters, once confirmed, are part of a ceremony attended by Native American leaders, who bestow tribal blessings.

So it is a badge of honour, not a racist epithet.
