Who Knew? 18.6% of Minneapolis real estate listings up for sale in last 7 days

Minnyap@

Do Americans really want Democrat policies at a national level? As the Minneapolis City Council voted to replace the Minneapolis Police Department with community-led public safety groups, reports are that 18.6% of Minneapolis’ total real estate listings have come up for sale in just 7 days. Real estate website Zillow has tested at 15%. As a rule, 5-6% of total properties is a general average for properties for sale at any one time. Minneapolis at 3x that. Who knew?

What did these politicians think when they were debating to disband the police? None of this cross their minds?

What is worse, the tax base will shrink with it further compounding the problems these political hacks think they will solve for with kumbaya hand-holding. Watch crime soar. Well done liberals. Just when we think new levels of stupidity are hit, you guys manage to lower the bar time after time.

Once again, how can sane Americans honestly see Democrats as a credible alternative to Trump, for all of his foibles?

Powerful – Cleveland Pastor testifies on the dangers of defunding Police

Cleveland Pastor Darrell Scott spoke at the House Judiciary Committee Hearing on Police Reform on the importance of continuing to fund the police and get politicians to take “responsibility” for law enforcement under their direct control.

Powerful speech. 9-minute video.

What happened when Baltimore went soft on crime

Arrests chg

In April 2015, a black man by the name of Freddie Gray died from injuries sustained in a police van. His death sparked outrage and riots in Baltimore. The 6 officers (3 black, 3 white) who faced trial for his death were either acquitted or had the charges dropped.

According to Larry Elder, despite claims that the city was suffering from systemic racism at the time of his death, the mayor of Baltimore City was black, the AG was black, the police chief was black, his deputy was black, the majority of the command centre was black and the city council members were predominantly black and all Democrat. We shouldn’t forget that the US president was also black.

As a result of the riots that followed Gray’s death, the Baltimore City Police Department (BCPD) went soft on crime. Police actions fell off a cliff. Arrests had been declining for years but decelerated even quicker post-2015.

From 2014 to 2017, dispatch records show the number of field interviews fell 70%. Suspected narcotics offences reported by police fell 30%. The number of people BCPD reported seeing with outstanding warrants dropped by half.  The acting police commissioner admitted, “In all candour, officers are not as aggressive as they once were, pre-2015. It’s just that fact.

Rape surged.

Rapes

Homicides exploded. In 2017, Baltimore hit its highest per-capita murder rate ever. It was double Chicago’s rate and in absolute numbers higher than New York, a city 14 times as populous.

Homicides

An informal survey of 15% of BCPD officers taken by the council showed that officers were afraid to make arrests in the aftermath. A third of those surveyed had served in BCPD for over 20 years.

40% said they felt “inadequately trained

43% said they do not feel “comfortable making self-initiated arrests

68% said they do not feel “city leadership supports law enforcement.”

74% said they “feel restricted by the consent decree,”

78% said they felt the department had “lowered hiring standards.

One officer responded, “Morale won’t rise until the Department and its officers receive consistent public support from the Mayor, City Council and State’s Attorney. No one is asking that corruption be tolerated. What we are asking is that when we investigate crimes and make arrests or issue citations that our elected leaders support us when we encounter resistance.

Another mentioned, “We don’t have enough people in my unit. The volume of cases we have is absurd given our manpower. It leads to mistakes, and inadequate follow up investigations which lead to sloppy prosecutions. None of which is for lack of trying.

A shortage of funds? The budget for the BCPD has grown from $455 million in FY2015 to $536 million for FY2020, begging the question of why arrests and prosecution of crime haven’t matched the increased spending?

When analysing the breakdown of the BCPD budget, composition matters. Police patrolling will decline from $253 million in 2015 to $202 million in the 2020 budget. The number of police allocated to patrol will fall from 1,851 to 1,363 during the same period. Administration expenses will jump from $44 million to $94 million. Crime investigation will rise from $52 million to $53 million off from the low of $35 million in 2019.

Just as we saw with our study on fire services around Australia at the time of the bushfires, more money doesn’t always lead to better outcomes if those custodians don’t have the skills to sensibly allocate those extra dollars.

Like many government bureaus or departments, it doesn’t appear to be a question of just throwing more money at policing but far better stewardship of funds, a more defined focus of mission and a council that supports law enforcement by cutting red tape which leads to the types of outcomes that benefit the community at large.

Woke policing doesn’t work. Baltimore is proof.

Liberal Privilege at its finest

Have you heard of Liberal privilege?

As we know many Democrat politicians have been pushing to defund the police across American cities. The president of Minneapolis City Council said that having the police is a privilege.

In LA, Council President Nury Martinez demanded $150 million be stripped from the LAPD budget but uses them for her own private security.

Some pigs are more equal than others.

Hypocrite.

Wow – Leaked audios of Democrat politicians’ true colours surrounding George Floyd crisis

We thought the worst comment  was made by a Democrat primary candidate, Elliot Engel who was hot-mic’d at a George Floyd protest saying, “if I didn’t have a primary, I wouldn’t care!

Although Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was happy to tell Alderman Raymond Lopez that he was “full of sh*t” when he asked her what she was going to do with the problems of gangbangers wanting to settle scores in his neighbourhood with AK-47s? Grab your popcorn.

Enjoy – if many of these Democrats didn’t have double standards they’d have no standards at all!

DC Mayor gets schooled by the mob

DFP

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser set a wonderful example last week in trying to end racism. She renamed the area out the front of the White House, ‘Black Lives Matter Plaza‘ and scrawled it in huge yellow letters on the bitumen as a two-fingered salute to President Trump.

Unfortunately, despite her attempts to show solidarity,  Black Lives Matter DC cracked her over the head for “appeasing white liberals”.  So the mob decided to express their own artistic expression by copying her virtue signalling with ‘Defund the Police’ while dancing to cheerful singing.

How ironic that these protestors were protected by the very police they wish to have abolished? We wonder how the officers must have felt providing a safe environment to the very people who wish to strip them of their livelihoods right from under their noses?

One imagines if a group painted ‘All Lives Matter’ on the pavement, they would be met with hostility and violence.

We wonder how the demands of the left will play out ahead of the election?

Does anyone in the Democratic Party think that Americans will be prepared to give up their rights under the 2nd Amendment when they are advocating for defunding and disbanding the police forces around the country? Perhaps they might look at the surge in gun sales as a good guide as to the public perception of these moves. Note that gun sales hit an all-time record during coronavirus with 3.7mn checks in March, 3x the level of March 2019. One imagines the “defund the police” movement will send it higher again.

Will Americans gladly accept the premise made by Democrat politicians like Lisa Bender in Minneapolis who tells them that having a police force is a privilege and removing it is necessary to “dismantle white supremacy“? She might be able to argue in time that her policy drove home prices down to more significantly more ‘affordable’ levels. And the very program Bender lauds the success of hasn’t stemmed violence. Despite the number of shootings among people targeted by her intervention program staying level between 2018 and 2019, police stats showed the overall number of people wounded or killed by gunfire in the city increased from 244 to 269. Homicide was up 55% in the period.

Should Americans believe Minnesota House Rep. Ilhan Omar support to defund the police when she said, “we must completely dismantle the Minneapolis Police Departent…and allow for something beautiful to rise” Murder? Rape? Robbery? Car theft? You know, the crime rates which are already twice the national average and 4x Minnesota. Pfft. Feelings matter more than facts.

Will pictures of Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden kneeling send messages to the electorate of someone committed to keeping law and order?

Will we see a rebirth of vigilante groups like the Guardian Angels who dealt with crime in NYC during the 1980s?

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany spoke yesterday about the heroic deeds of the police around the country just last year. It is worth watching their selfless service from the 26 min 40-sec mark.

Why can’t the Democrats see that these open displays of weakness are handing Trump the election on a platter? Can’t they see just how terrible they look as an alternative? If he is bad as the media claims, they’d be safer doing nothing.

As Napoleon once said, “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

Minneapolis votes to disband the Police Dept

It appears that 9 out of 13 Minneapolis City councillors have voted in favour of disbanding the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) and shift its funding towards a “community-oriented, nonviolent public safety and outreach capacity.

Perhaps they need to watch The Untouchables where Al Capone infamously said, “I grew up in a tough neighbourhood and quickly learnt you could get much further with a kind word and a gun than just a kind word.”

Soft-touch all looks pretty on paper. However, we question how violent crime will be curtailed? We doubt that criminals will see this as anything other than an invite to turn Minneapolis into a crime hub to coordinate it with no police present.

Minneapolis has a crime rate twice the national city average and 4x the state of Minnesota. According to Neighborhood Scout, only 4% of cities in America are more crime-infested than Minneapolis. 50 crimes are committed per 1,000 residents annually split 8/1,000 for violent crimes and 42/1,000 for robbery. Do facts matter to the council? Will crime drop off if community groups hold hands and sing kumbaya to home-owners as felons loot their abodes?

The outcome? We would imagine that those who may have relied on the police to help them with incidences of burglary, robbery or assault may just have to pack their bags and leave. Minneapolis has grown from around 368,000 inhabitants in 1990 to around 425,000 today.

For whatever faults the MPD may have had, isn’t it worth reflecting on 59 years of continuous Democratic stewardship which led to the failures that caused the problem in the first place?

This isn’t a lesser of two evils argument but a perfect time to clean house within the police department and union. For the Mayor to sack the police chief and install someone to change MPD’s behaviors rather than just through the keys into the burnt-out police station. It is not as if the MPD had a lot of choices after Floyd’s death to stand their ground. With it the majority of good cops will be on the street.

We wouldn’t be surprised if businesses pack up and leave too, like they did in Detroit. Investment will fall because who would want to pour money into an abandoning ship? Insurance companies will see no point signing up policies in a city that doesn’t have proper law enforcement to lower the risk profile.

Who ends up losing? Residents, forced into more crime-infested poverty. Democrat policy at its finest. Utterly clueless.

While being woke might appear optically pleasing to the mob while emotions are high, this supposed proven public safety initiative adopted in places such as Eugene, Oregon; Austin, Texas; and Denver, Colorado still rely on their city police forces to marshall the tougher stuff. Minneapolis wants to go all in.

One can only imagine that the services of a Wyatt Earp will be required when it all goes completely pear-shaped. You can’t make this stuff up. Even the mayor, as whipped as he is knows a police force is still a necessary evil. How can he not resign?

Catch-22

Minneapolis City Mayor Jacob Frey was booed off a protest stage after saying he wouldn’t defund the police. The Democrat was threatened with losing their vote for his failure to submit to their demands.

The catch-22 for the demonstrators is whether they will vote for a Republican instead. The last one to hold office was Richard Erdall who served one day in 1973. Prior to that P. Kenneth Peterson’s term ended in July 1961.

Time for change in leadership after nearly 60 years of Democrats which presided over the very police force that sparked the crisis?

#FreyGetOutOfOurWay a new opposition campaign slogan? Surprised the city doesn’t get a recall petition started.

DC Mayor backs tribalism

BLM

Is this the new norm of political discourse? We believe that Trump has legitimized political trolling on social media and on occasions goes too far. However, one has to question those who continually assert they hold the moral high ground end up resorting to doing the same thing. All is fair in love and war?

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser took to using taxpayer funds to rename a section of 16th street in front of the White House, “Black Lives Matter Plaza” in what can only be described as a stunt to troll Trump. Should taxpayer funds be diverted to help boost politically aligned organisations?

Naturally, the Left is ecstatic. Yet another hijacking of the George Floyd movement.

Before fuelling her Trump Derangement Syndrome, perhaps the mayor might have reflected on the fact that the very police department that reports to her has killed 23 black people and 1 white person since 2013, by far the worst ratio compared to any American state. Why hasn’t Black Lives Matter smashed down her door to protest this abhorrent statistic?

Her own constituents took to Twitter to complain about Bowser’s political statement.

Murals are performative, budgets are not.

If you wants to show #BlackLivesMatter in DC, why don’t you respond to
@DMVBlackLives demands, which include #DefundMPD?

Instead, you’ve pitched a 3.3%, $18.5mm boost to police & $16mm CUT to housing

Is this how Americans want elected officials to behave? Do Americans want governments who are tight on cash, especially after months of being forced to stay at home (note Bowser’s Twitter handle still implores it) to splurge on political statements to troll someone they despise? DC public sector wage freezes are in effect, hiring is to be curtailed and building projects cut.

No doubt the tins of yellow paint and the labour wouldn’t have amounted to much more than a rounding error on the district’s budget, but it is the principle (or lack thereof).

The irony is that Trump has openly stated the death of George Floyd was a tragedy and immediately mobilized the FBI and DOJ to investigate and get to the bottom of it.

What does BLM stand for? It states that it work(s) vigorously for freedom and justice for Black people and, by extension, all people.

We wrote about the hypocrisy of BLM here and here.

Unfortunately, the manifesto didn’t spare Grant Napear, the longtime TV voice of the Sacramento Kings being fired for saying “all lives matter.

What Bowser is doing is perpetuating the very tribalism that she thinks she is fixing. Yet the trend isn’t limited to a political artwork. This mentality has already ended up in the school system.

The Rochester City School District in NY has already adopted Black Lives Matters materials in its curriculum suggesting that America is inherently racist. Whites are singled out for blame and learn this via a book entitled “White Rage” which is part of the reading materials for students.

Darien High School Principal Ellen Dunn sent an email to parents promising to increase the amount of race-conscious education in the curriculum by distributing documents from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). For context, the SPLC sacked its co-founder in March 2019. Soon after the president resigned amidst numerous claims of sexual harassment, gender discrimination and racism within the organization failing at the very virtues it pretends to instil.

The 1619 Project, started by The New York Times Magazine, is now a mandatory part of the curriculum in state schools across Buffalo, Chicago, Newark and Washington. The 1619 Project documents 400 years of slavery. Its creator, Nikole Hannah-Jones, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter covering racial injustice for The New York Times Magazine. However, four days ago she openly said that,

Destroying property, which can be replaced, is not violence.”

Is that a mandatory lesson that parents want their kids to learn? If junior gets angry over an issue, kicking in the doors of the family car is an acceptable and reasoned response which should be forgiven?

Which brings us back to one of Black Lives Matter’s key demands – to defund the Minneapolis Police Department (and no doubt others too). Should Bowser also bow to those demands as her constituents argue? Afterall her deaths at the hands of the DC Police stats are the worst of all.

The Minneapolis City Council is seriously debating the topic of defunding the police. Council Member Steve Fletcher wrote that the police department was “irredeemably beyond reformand thatseveral of us on the council are working on finding out what it would take to disband the Minneapolis Police Department and start fresh with a community-oriented, nonviolent public safety and outreach capacity.

Which begs the question, what will citizens who are victims of crime do if the police force disappears? People will leave and exacerbate economic hardship.

In Jan 2017, we wrote a piece on what cutting funding (not defunding) police departments did to the City of Detroit. From a peak of 1.8mn people in the 1950s, the city has shrunk to around 1/3rd that level. It continues to fall in 2020. It is now 2/3rds of the population of 100 years ago.

Some 78,000 homes are unoccupied in the city, and in 2011 half of the occupiers of the city’s 305,000 properties paid no tax. The white population has shrunk from 90% of the city in the 1960s to less than 9%. The black community has grown from 4% to 83% over the same period although their population is falling in absolute terms. Violent crime in absolute terms exceeds that of New York.

7% of public parks have been permanently closed since 2008 and the police force has been cut by 40% in the last decade. Most police stations are closed 16 hours a day and response times are around one hour. The police were asking residents to call only in an emergency to prevent overloading the limited resources.

Brian Fallon, a former spokesman for the Justice Department under Obama’s former Attorney General Eric Holder tweeted, “Defund the Police.” Maybe Hillary Clinton’s security detail should be defunded too? Fallon is currently the executive director of Demand Justice, a progressive movement that strives to get liberal justices appointed to federal courts.

An online petition has been launched to defund the police across the country. It is supported by singer John Legend, hypocritical feminist soccer star Megan Rapinoe and Hollywood stars Natalie Portman and Jane Fonda, among others. We guess it is ok to take away everyone else’ security when one can afford their own armed rent-a-cop.

Is this the country Americans want? The left-wing of the Democratic Party and their radical supporters are literally painting their lunatic policies to the road for all of America to see. Defund the police? Use taxpayer funds to promote tribalism? Introduce school curriculums as early as elementary schools to indoctrinate kids about “white rage”? Keep it up.

For as much as many Americans struggle to put up with Trump for all of his antics, the left is hardly making a compelling argument as a viable alternative. Perhaps Mayor Bowser can paint #FuckTrump in rainbow colours out the front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue facing toward the Oval Office to seal the deal.

Bowser is doing the exact opposite of what she extols.
