NYC Mayor Deblasio’s wife in cringeworthy unity video

Aren’t these the people telling the rest of us to behave like adults and that staying at home is for our own good?

Sure, a dance will soften the blow of NYC businesses and staff crushed financially under the weight of often baseless unscientific draconian rules. Not. Maybe when one collects a public sector paycheck regardless of stage of lockdown, one can gladly glide down the stairs without a care in the world.

Video here.

NASDAQ wants to enforce diversity on boards as a listing requirement

NASDAQ is pushing for SEC approval of a rule that would require public companies on its exchange to have at least one female director and one “diverse” director – one that self-identifies as an underrepresented minority or LGBTQ.

Companies would be required to disclose that diversity in its filings. Forgive us for being obtuse, but wouldn’t the ability to read a balance sheet or understanding corporate governance be the more relevant skillsets for shareholders? If the best candidates happen to be all women, LGBTQ or whatever other identity, wouldn’t shareholders applaud their appointment based on just being superior candidates as opposed to genitalia or who they choose to sleep with?

We’ve already seen how badly forced diversity programs have worked at companies like PG&E. Remember that the company had full data sets on the diversity of its workforce and suppliers but not the state of the infrastructure of its core business. Alas, not understanding the health of its main product led to the devastating forest fires in California last year sending the company into Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The irony of the plan by NASDAQ is the partnership with Equilar. The picture above is the Equilar board which doesn’t seem to be playing by the very rules that NASDAQ wants to enforce on others. It reminds us of ACSI, which is a huge advocate for diversity on listed boards, but doesn’t even meet the very requirements it seeks to impose on others.

What if a prospective board member happens to be LGBT but doesn’t wish to disclose that fact as an individual member of privacy? What will happen if a company has to choose between a female, a member of the LGBT community, a person of colour or a female LGBT person of colour? Will more ticks in the identity box grant companies be seen as more advantageous in disclosure reporting even though the LGBT person is the most qualified? What will happen if prospective directors falsely claim they identify as something they are not, merely to be in the selection process? Will the companies check the validity by peering through the window of staff homes to ensure they are sleeping with the right person?

NASDAQ also wants to push the SEC to force private companies to adopt the same framework.

In a lecture we gave to a group of executive MBA students, we put up a chart where someone’s superannuation would have grown to $430,000, $180,000 and $130,000 given three different investment products over a decade. We asked for a show of hands as to which sum people wanted to retire on. Everyone wanted the $430,000. Surprise, surprise. When it was revealed that the first sum came from a direct investment in Harvey Norman, which doesn’t believe in all this woke diversity nonsense (despite having an exceptionally talented CEO who happens to be female, the group was surprised. The middle sum was the broader market index and the worst performer was the ESG fund. When asked would that change their mind, they all said no. Who knew? Being woke didn’t matter as much as being able to retire on a larger nest egg.

The students were more shocked to find out that the management fees for ‘woke’ products was higher than standard investment structures. Who knew that heavily promoting social justice would be more financially rewarding to the investment advisors pushing it? It is for the planet, diversity and their brand new speedboat you know!

When will regulators let shareholders determine who they see best fit to run the companies they choose to invest in? We have no issues seeing more diversity on boards, provided it is based on merit rather than forced quotas.

We can’t help but feel that ambitious people (of whatever incidental identity) don’t need such condescending structures. They have enough confidence in their own ability to succeed than to be patronised in a way that suggests that without intervention they can’t get ahead.

Unfortunately these programs are by their very definition are all about discrimination.

Brilliant Bee on ACB

Babylon Bee at its best. As ACB bats off ridiculous questions from Democrats with no notes at will, the Bee’s satire is a winner.

The main truth to come out of the Senate hearings is that the Democrats, true to form, are left to attack her faith and values because they have no leg to stand on re her credentials.

We thought Senator Cory Booker’s (D-NJ) question to ACB about whether she denounces white supremacy despite having adopted two black kids took some beating. What an idiot.

Premier Dan Andrews – do you really think they’ll buy it?

Dakota tribal wisdom says that when you’re on a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount. Of course, there are other strategies. You can change riders. You can get a committee to study the dead horse. You can benchmark how other companies ride dead horses. You can declare that it’s cheaper to feed a dead horse. You can harness several dead horses together. But after you’ve tried all these things, you’re still going to have to dismount.” – Gary Hamel

This quote summed up Dan Andrews press conference where he deflected on the ridiculous arrest of Zoe Lee, the pregnant mother who was handcuffed by Victoria Police in front of her kids. It was totally unbelievable.

Is it even conceivable that the Premier of Victoria hadn’t been shown the clip by any of his staffers? Wouldn’t anyone with a shred of decency watch the viral video and condemn the heavy-handed incident? Of course not. That is more telling. Andrews couldn’t care less. He has got his 6 months in the back pocket and can ride roughshod over Victorians as he pleases with zero formula to back his megalomania. By then Zoe Lee will be a distant memory.

How is it the police were able to march into Zoe Lee’s house, charge her with ‘incitement’, cuff her while in pyjamas and seize all of her computing devices as if she was under suspicion of storing kiddie porn on her hard drive? It could only come from the laws set by parliament. The police don’t get to arbitrarily make laws of their own and violate basic human rights. We are not exactly sure how Zoe Lee fits the profile of a radical seditionist.

This is perhaps one of the most sinister actions by a political body in Australian history. Time PM Scott Morrison absolutely torches Andrews for this cowardice and keep the pressure on the premier to walk back his nonsense lockdown less have his federal funding suspended. Extortion works both ways, but most Australians would gladly support the PM in this instance.

Kamala Harris supported fund which bailed out criminals

Joe Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris might have some explaining to do. She was rather eager to get people to sponsor the Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF) which has provided bail for those who have been accused of crimes such as murder, rape and assault.

MFF put up $100,000 bail for Darnika Floyd, who was charged with second-degree murder for stabbing a friend to death. $350,000 for Christopher Boswell, who is facing sexual assault and kidnapping charges. Jaleel Stallings, accused of shooting at police during the May riots, was bailed out by MFF for $75,000. Donovan Boone, charged with invading the home of his ex-girlfriend and choking her, was bailed out for $3,000.

Although she has shown to be tough on crime during her career, we guess Harris is a bigger supporter of civil disorder now that it is politically expedient.

If the left didn’t have double standards they’d have no standards at all.

Demuckracy in 2020

We have long thought the 2020 presidential election would be ugly. That is hardly a wild stab in the dark.

Democracy is the last thing on the minds of the political class. We’ve had a 7-month introduction to what is at stake. Despotic governors have been swift to arrest, charge and humiliate normally law-abiding hair salon and gym owners for feeding their families while allowing peaceful protests to go completely unpunished.

These are the same politicians who supported the police when it suited to beat up taxpayers until it was expedient not to do so. As cities burn and crime soars, they threw the police under the bus and blamed them for inciting peaceful protestors. Many activist judiciaries gladly let off violent felons with no more than a slap on the wrist.

Our thoughts have always been if the average US citizen wakes up every morning and sees a burnt out shell where a supermarket once stood, graffiti scrawled over historic buildings and plinths with nothing atop them, they don’t need a biased media to tell twist what they see with their own eyes.

How ironic that the cities most affected are run by Democrats which have held power in many cases for over half a century. This is a first hand lived experience situation for most residents in a crisis. Utter failure, excuse making and politicians doing the exact opposite of what they wish for. More police, lower crime and law & order. Instead, city mayors virtue signaled as cities burnt. They took photo ops to paint Black Lives Matter on City streets even though the Marxist BLM movement lambasted them for pandering to white liberals.

Teachers’ unions have gone on strike demanding pretty much everything other than safe reopening to combat coronavirus.

The media is an ever willing accomplice. MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace has openly celebrated the prospect of a recession and spoke of a silver lining to coronavirus if it means Trump loses office.

What hypocrisy when the media cheered a White House reporter for questioning Trump about his lies this week. That coming from an industry that has never had lower ratings for trust.

Let’s not even start with social media giants and their bias – declaring themselves medical experts and deleting information they deem incorrect. No longer are they independent platforms for free expression but what they tell us is fit for consumption. Forget your rights. They think we’re too stupid to make such decisions.

Now voting rights are front and centre.

Never mind that a bipartisan commission agreed that mail-in ballots were the highest source of voter fraud. This year, in NY & NJ, between 20-25% of ballots were ruled invalid. Voter intimidation and fraud has been recorded. Several Democrats have been arrested and charged for engaging in the criminal activity.

Now the postal service (USPS) says it is not equipped to handle mail-in ballots safely.

Scroll back two years ago. We wrote of the number of Democrat controlled states which passed legislation to keep Trump’s name off the 2020 ballot if he failed to publicize his tax returns. Shouldn’t voters, not state legislators determine whether his taxes are an election issue?

As November 3rd looms, the mudslinging will make impeachment and the George Floyd riots feel like quiet nights in.

The public is at boiling point. The silent majority is growing fed up. They look at the available candidates and ponder is the best the Democrats have to offer? A presidential candidate losing control of his mental faculties teamed up with one of politics’ biggest hypocrites in Kamala Harris. An individual who gladly accused her running mate of believing his sexual assault accusers and racism. Who backflips on nearly every policy and has even suggested ICE operates like the KKK.

Never mind, the balanced NYT has labeled her a “pragmatic moderate“. We never knew that defunding the police, supporting men playing in women’s sporting codes and providing healthcare for all illegal immigrants were conservative positions. That will learn us.

As much as people may hate Trump for all of his bluster, many of his economic policies have been successful as we pointed out at the time of his SOTU. He has exposed just how useless politicians on both sides of the aisle who have served for decades have been.

His job isn’t over. When it comes to mud wrestling there is no finer professional. If it sticks he doesn’t care. He only knows forward. Await the fireworks. Democrats want revenge but they might be best to remember when embarking on it, to dig two graves.

Spineless SJWs in Seattle

The Seattle City Council has determined that multiple roles traditionally operated by the Seattle Police Department should be replaced with the ‘Department of Community Safety & Violence Prevention.(DOCS&VP).’

Their logic is clear enough:

Whereas, the Council is committed to confronting the structural and institutional racism as a fundamental step towards addressing the racist institution of policing

…Whereas, these protests forced many nationwide and in Seattle to confront the racism that has been plaguing the Black community for centuries and spread to other communities of color, the harmful impacts of white supremacy culture, and the Seattle Police Department’s (SPD) role in perpetuating racism and violence.

As a city, whites make up 65.7%, Asians 14.1%, Black 7.1% and Hispanic 6.3%.

Ethnicity of the Seattle PD is 74%, 6.9%, 8% and 4.7% respectively.

For what it is worth, if the Seattle PD perpetuates so much racism, why is the Chief of Police Carmen Best, black? Why is Assistant Chief – Special Operations Bureau Eric Greening, black? So of the 8 command staff, 50% are white. Meaning 50% aren’t.

The DOCS&VP will be required to have:

Culturally-relevant expertise rooted in community connections

• Well versed in de-escalation skills and mental health support

• Trauma-informed, gender-affirming, anti-racist praxis

• Connected to resources like housing, food security, and other basic needs.

How spineless are the Democrat council members, so desperate to score moral preening points, that they spit in the face of the brave men and women who defend them?

Mayor Jenny Durkan already displayed her brazen incompetence over CHAZ. Stands to reason that her council share her shocking lack of judgment. Await another spectacular failure which will only end up perpetuating the very things they think they’ll stop. Madness.

Baby Lives Matter Mural painted outside Planned Parenthood

Now that painting roads with BLM slogans is a thing, pro-life protestors have take to painting #BabyLivesMatter on the street in front of Planned Parenthood in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Planned Parenthood affiliates performed 345,672 abortions from Oct. 1, 2017, to Sept. 30, 2018—the highest number of abortions ever reported in a single year.

As we mentioned last week, according to a NYC Health Department report released in May 2018, between 2012 and 2016 black mothers terminated 136,426 pregnancies and gave birth to 118,127 babies. Shouldn’t all black lives matter?

BLM bashing

Star Parker, founder of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, took to BLM and the corporates that support the group with a sledge hammer. She isn’t playing.

Demanding segregation at a university which scores high on diversity

us-news-2020-engineering.jpg | Rice Engineering | Rice University

Rice University (RU) administrators are being asked to establish a racially segregated non-residential Black House specifically made for Black students and Black organizations to congregate and hold events as a way to overcome “systemic oppression and inequity.” Only Black students would have access to this building.

The group has also demanded:

  • the removal of a statue William Marsh Rice, which the university was named after because he was a slave owner.
  • comprehensive decolonization of the curriculum with mandatory lessons for all students on systemic racial inequity that is built into our global and local society and how it affects Black people today.
  • an increase in Black chefs, tenured professors, as well as other members of the Rice community. Representation plays a key role in increasing the well-being of Black students on campus.
  • That RU cuts ties with Houston PD and decrease RUPD presence on campus
with the goal of complete abolition. i.e. defund the police.
  • to allow black students to select their roommates based on race.
  • Other demands are included in this link.

We were a bit surprised that these race activists couldn’t spell “Ku Klux Klan” properly (at the bottom of page 2).

The two most interesting statements were:

  • This list is neither comprehensive nor does it speak for all Black students as a single, unified group…Neither did we collect names of Black students who gave suggestions, nor did we list the names of those we are aware of who “adamantly support” some of these items.

If they wish to make such demands, surely a plurality of black students would make a stronger case for those changes to be accommodated or at the very least considered (which RU is already doing). With little data to work with to gauge the extent of the problem, should RU blindly make investments based purely on identity which would undoubtedly come at the expense of some other areas which were benefitting the majority of students?

  • “This list is not littered with quantitative data or studies of peer institutions. Rather, we decided to use this moment in history to give a social statement.

Since the students freely admit that they haven’t done the homework, we decided to do it for them. Luckily for RU, they are well ahead of the pack and have grounds for congratulation, not censure.

First, College Factual (CF) notes that RU scores well above average for diversity in gender, ethnicity and geographic location. CF ranks RU a Top 5% university for diversity.

Diversity

Second, the enrolled student population at Rice University is as follows. Whites are the largest cohort but not the majority:

Undergrad

Third, the faculty staff at Rice University is as follows:

faculty

In short, white faculty staff are the majority but lower than their population cohort. Compare this to around 80% in high schools in America.

According to the 2017 data, in terms of graduation rates at RU, black females complete their degrees (95.3% vs 88.9% in 2012) at a higher level than whites (94% vs 92.1% in 2012). Hispanic women have a graduation rate of 97% (vs 94.5% in 2012) and Asian women 98.9% (vs 97.9% in 2012). Native Americans had a 100% pass rate. No evidence of racial profiling by teachers.

For men in 2017, in terms of graduation rates at RU, black males complete their degrees (76.9% vs 84.2% in 2012) at a lower level than whites (89.8% vs 90.4% in 2012). Hispanic men have a graduation rate of 86.7% (vs 90.9% in 2012) and Asian men 91.8% (vs 95.7% in 2012). Why have men across all cohorts seen a lower level of pass rates?

There is little evidence that systemic racism is working against students of colour. If the students are triggered by the university’s history, removing a statue won’t change the fact that it was founded by a slave owner. No doubt these students picked RU for its curriculum and the opportunities that will flow from that, which clearly in their minds supersede its past to study there.

In summary, it is concerning to see more of this tribalism be pushed in society, especially when the evidence is so inconclusive.  The biggest lesson these kids need to learn that merit, hard work and learning from history are far more important skillsets in the real world than lodging complaints that the equal treatment the institution appears to be showing is somehow discriminatory and that only special treatment will fix it.
