2020 Parenting skills

For all those parents wanting to teach kids a lesson about self entitlement.

Have black students demanded this?

A petition started by students at the University of Washington – which demands faculty staff mark black students more leniently – has gathered 26,000 signatures. Worse, the university believes it’s a good idea.

Nicole McNichols, UW Psychology Professor said, “Obviously, I support the petition and absolutely believe the accommodations it requests should be honored by all faculty. Students need all of the support and compassion we can afford to give them right now.”

What about Hispanic students? Don’t other minorities have a claim for leniency too? What about black trans students with disabilities? Should they get more marks?

If the students that signed up to the petition truly want to make it fair, perhaps the white students should agree to be marked down with a white privilege adjustment to atone for the sins of those they aren’t related to who may have committed crimes before they were born.

Ultimately, if these liberally minded students truly wish to stop discrimination, why demand a policy that actively encourages it? If they wish to stop systemic racism how does such segregationist policies help?

In closing, how many black students have demanded this? Were many consulted? We wouldn’t be surprised if many black students get frustrated at the basic tenet that these white liberal kids think without an artificial boost they can’t succeed on their own merits. That is about as condescending as it gets!

This is the perfect argument for why universities should be free. Absolutely no lessons about real life are being taught.

Rant over.

Demanding segregation at a university which scores high on diversity

us-news-2020-engineering.jpg | Rice Engineering | Rice University

Rice University (RU) administrators are being asked to establish a racially segregated non-residential Black House specifically made for Black students and Black organizations to congregate and hold events as a way to overcome “systemic oppression and inequity.” Only Black students would have access to this building.

The group has also demanded:

  • the removal of a statue William Marsh Rice, which the university was named after because he was a slave owner.
  • comprehensive decolonization of the curriculum with mandatory lessons for all students on systemic racial inequity that is built into our global and local society and how it affects Black people today.
  • an increase in Black chefs, tenured professors, as well as other members of the Rice community. Representation plays a key role in increasing the well-being of Black students on campus.
  • That RU cuts ties with Houston PD and decrease RUPD presence on campus
with the goal of complete abolition. i.e. defund the police.
  • to allow black students to select their roommates based on race.
  • Other demands are included in this link.

We were a bit surprised that these race activists couldn’t spell “Ku Klux Klan” properly (at the bottom of page 2).

The two most interesting statements were:

  • This list is neither comprehensive nor does it speak for all Black students as a single, unified group…Neither did we collect names of Black students who gave suggestions, nor did we list the names of those we are aware of who “adamantly support” some of these items.

If they wish to make such demands, surely a plurality of black students would make a stronger case for those changes to be accommodated or at the very least considered (which RU is already doing). With little data to work with to gauge the extent of the problem, should RU blindly make investments based purely on identity which would undoubtedly come at the expense of some other areas which were benefitting the majority of students?

  • “This list is not littered with quantitative data or studies of peer institutions. Rather, we decided to use this moment in history to give a social statement.

Since the students freely admit that they haven’t done the homework, we decided to do it for them. Luckily for RU, they are well ahead of the pack and have grounds for congratulation, not censure.

First, College Factual (CF) notes that RU scores well above average for diversity in gender, ethnicity and geographic location. CF ranks RU a Top 5% university for diversity.

Diversity

Second, the enrolled student population at Rice University is as follows. Whites are the largest cohort but not the majority:

Undergrad

Third, the faculty staff at Rice University is as follows:

faculty

In short, white faculty staff are the majority but lower than their population cohort. Compare this to around 80% in high schools in America.

According to the 2017 data, in terms of graduation rates at RU, black females complete their degrees (95.3% vs 88.9% in 2012) at a higher level than whites (94% vs 92.1% in 2012). Hispanic women have a graduation rate of 97% (vs 94.5% in 2012) and Asian women 98.9% (vs 97.9% in 2012). Native Americans had a 100% pass rate. No evidence of racial profiling by teachers.

For men in 2017, in terms of graduation rates at RU, black males complete their degrees (76.9% vs 84.2% in 2012) at a lower level than whites (89.8% vs 90.4% in 2012). Hispanic men have a graduation rate of 86.7% (vs 90.9% in 2012) and Asian men 91.8% (vs 95.7% in 2012). Why have men across all cohorts seen a lower level of pass rates?

There is little evidence that systemic racism is working against students of colour. If the students are triggered by the university’s history, removing a statue won’t change the fact that it was founded by a slave owner. No doubt these students picked RU for its curriculum and the opportunities that will flow from that, which clearly in their minds supersede its past to study there.

In summary, it is concerning to see more of this tribalism be pushed in society, especially when the evidence is so inconclusive.  The biggest lesson these kids need to learn that merit, hard work and learning from history are far more important skillsets in the real world than lodging complaints that the equal treatment the institution appears to be showing is somehow discriminatory and that only special treatment will fix it.

Cambridge Professor wants to abolish whiteness

It used to be a source of pride to say one graduated from Cambridge University.

Cambridge University’s Churchill College Professor Priyamvada Gopal’s used Twitter to say “White Lives Don’t Matter” and “abolish whiteness.

Gopal’s areas of study include gender and feminism, Marxism, critical race studies, and the politics and cultures of empire and globalization.

How does the dean tolerate the divisive radical professor?

We don’t have a problem with her free speech because her words speak for themselves. We question why the university tolerates faculty staff who bring the reputation of a prized tertiary institution into disrepute?

Even worse, she doubled down

One thing about white racists, the ones who are emailing & tweeting about my losing my job. It REALLY gets up their nose that Cambridge–which they see as theirs, their Properly White Institution–has me in its teaching ranks. Deeply triggering.

No, they care about the legacy of the institution. The university should seek to protect it regardless of the identity of the individual who made such thoughtless comments.

We shouldn’t be surprised at the deterioration in education standards. Who could forget the Stanford law professor, Pamela Karlan, who said during her testimony at the impeachment hearings that she crossed the street so she didn’t have to walk in front of Trump buildings.

When the left demand free education, we finally understand. If this is the standard, why drop a fortune on something that increasingly has no value?

Cambridge University’s reaction will be telling.

Wow – Leaked audios of Democrat politicians’ true colours surrounding George Floyd crisis

We thought the worst comment  was made by a Democrat primary candidate, Elliot Engel who was hot-mic’d at a George Floyd protest saying, “if I didn’t have a primary, I wouldn’t care!

Although Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was happy to tell Alderman Raymond Lopez that he was “full of sh*t” when he asked her what she was going to do with the problems of gangbangers wanting to settle scores in his neighbourhood with AK-47s? Grab your popcorn.

Enjoy – if many of these Democrats didn’t have double standards they’d have no standards at all!

Marvel’s New Warriors – Safespace and Snowflake

SandS

Just when we thought we had heard it all in the world of identity politics, Marvel has decided to introduce five new (social justice) warriors – including Snowflake and Safespace. Marvel notes that,

“Psychic Twins. “All twins are psychic, but we’re psychic-er.” Snowflake, a cryokinetic, can materialize snowflake-shaped shuriken projectiles for throwing. Safespace can materialize pink forcefields, but he can’t inhabit them himself, the reflex only works if he’s protecting others. They’re hyper-aware of modern culture and optics, and they see their Super Heroics as “a post-ironic meditation on using violence to combat bullying.” They’re probably streaming this.

“Snowflake and Safespace are the twins,” the writer says, “and their names are very similar to Screentime; it’s this idea that these are terms that get thrown around on the internet that they don’t see as derogatory. [They] take those words and kind of wear them as badges of honour.”

“Safespace is a big, burly, sort of stereotypical jock. He can create forcefields, but he can only trigger them if he’s protecting somebody else. Snowflake is non-binary and goes by they/them, and has the power to generate individual crystalized snowflake-shaped shurikens. The connotations of the word ‘snowflake’ in our culture right now are something fragile, and this is a character who is turning it into something sharp.

“Snowflake is the person who has the more offensive power, and Safespace is the person who has the more defensive power. The idea is that they would mirror each other and complement each other.”

Not to worry, to help our anxious teens, Marvel has also introduced:

Screentime – a Meme-Obsessed super teen whose brain became connected to the internet after becoming exposed to his grandfather’s “experimental internet gas.” Now he can see augmented reality and real-time maps, and can instantly Google any fact.

Trailblazer – a group home and foster kid who is volunteering at a senior centre. Her “magic backpack” is actually a pocket dimension with seemingly infinite space, from which she can pull out useful or random objects—it’s not always under her control. She claims to get her power from god, but “not the god you’re thinking of.”

B Negative – is the goth kid. When he was a baby he got a rogue lifesaving blood transfusion. He has a bad attitude.

Will this be the Gillette moment for Marvel? Are there enough triggered millennials who will flock to the new comic series? Would Disney invest in a movie which moved from classics such as The Incredible Hulk to a movie based on Snowflake and Safespace? We wrote about the box office failures of movies that went woke here.

Disney bought Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion. Since then it has generated $18bn in Marvel comic-based movies. They made a bundle out of Pixar too.

Brains immature until 25yo

The BBC notes that pressure is being placed on courts to refrain from jailing people under 25yo on the basis their brains are stil immature.

BBC reported, “The Scottish Sentencing Council, which produces guidelines for all courts, has launched a 12-week public consultation…

…They say a young person’s maturity should be taken into account when assessing their blameworthiness…

…Using 25 as a threshold would bring Scotland in line with Switzerland. In the Netherlands the age threshold is 23. In Germany it is 21…

…It follows research saying imbalances in brain development explain risk-taking and emotionally driven behaviour.

Do the same rules apply to the apocalyptic predictions of a brainwashed 17yo to save the planet? Is it emotional rather than rational?

Cancel culture puts holes in Swiss chocolatier

Featured Image

Cancel culture. Weak corporate. Gutless response. Repeat.

It seems that Swiss Airlines will remove Swiss chocolatier, Läderach from its supplier list in April over the owner’s affiliation with a pro-life/pro-family Christian organization.

Who is this supposed to help? Passengers have a hard enough time consuming airline meals at the best of times to have the only edible certainty banned. To be honest, how often do passengers actively look through the list of suppliers of crackers, chocolates or packaged cheese and demand a boycott? Why don’t corporates truly work to understand their customers?

For over 10 years, Läderach had supplied Swiss Airlines with small boxes of chocolates that were given to some passengers as a token of appreciation. The company was aware of the CEO’s stance. Why didn’t it conduct proper due diligence 10 years ago?

According to an article published by Swiss magazine “Beobachter,” the airline has a significant number of homosexuals among its employees.

CEO Johannes Läderach denied being against homosexuals.

We have homosexuals working for us, too. We don’t ask them. I attended a gay network event because I wanted to hear what the LGBTQ movement has against Läderach. There I explained that I may have a different opinion on same-sex marriage or on the question when life begins. But this does not mean that I have anything against homosexuals. Läderach has zero-tolerance for discrimination.

Jürg Läderach, the owner of the chocolatier, is president of ‘christianity for today‘ (cft), a Swiss-based group. Johannes Läderach is a board member. cft advocates pro-life and calls for Christian values to be instilled in children.

In October 2019, left-wing activists attacked the Basel Läderach store using butyric acid which causes respiratory irritation, nausea and vomiting. 7 stores were attacked and forced to close for two days to clean the mess. A lot of lost business. Protestors surely broke the law. Repercussions? Probably not. It only emboldens more radical activism.

One has to wonder why Swiss Airlines doesn’t stand up against this form of terrorism instead of giving in to it. The majority of Swiss Airlines passengers probably pay little mind about the views of a chocolate owner. Is everything up for debate? Will something said 20 years ago surface?

As it turns out. Swiss Airlines buckled to a German homosexual lobby group which suggested,  “One way of protesting would be, for example, if hotels or restaurants decided to eliminate Läderach’s products from their range of goods and clearly mark the reason.

Are you noticing a pattern? The list is longer than FNF Media thought.

Greyhound Australia chickened out to a bunch of truants over Adani.

Greta Thunberg slammed Roger Federer for having a sponsor which financed the fossil fuel industry. He folded with an utterly spineless response.

Nike cancelled a sneaker on the back of advice from a woke social justice warrior Colin Kaepernick who still can’t make the cut.

Recall Starbucks forcing its staff to undergo compulsory training to understand their ‘white privilege’ over the legitimate arrest of two people freeloading in the restaurant.

Reebok told us about compelled speech.

The plastic bag boycott movement which in reality only proved substitution rather than reduction.

NY Times hired an editor who openly said she hates “dumbass f*cking white people“. She has since been fired.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed told her staff that she will no longer conduct business with 22 states that have laws limiting the ability of women to obtain abortions, specifically late-term. Sadly for Breed, Coca-Cola, WalMart, AT&T, Aetna, Pfizer & Eli Lilly have donated to politicians who have advocated for abortion bans in some of those 22 states. Will SF City Council vending machines be stripped of Diet Coke?

Multiple corporates folded to Mad F*cking Witches over radio presenter Alan Jones’ remarks over Jacinda Ardern. One has to question the corporate PR departments to flake out over a group who has that as a name. Companies like Koala Mattresses proudly dumped Jones despite promoting its brand via profanity-laced man-hater, Clementine Ford.

The Code of Conduct from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia has some interesting clauses regarding nurses acknowledging our colonialist past and check our white privilege.

The University of Texas  started the  “MasculinUT” programme. It was organized by the school’s counselling staff and most recently made a poster series encouraging students to develop a “healthy model of masculinity.” The program is built around “restrictive masculinity” and tries to encourage men to drop traditional gender roles to “act like a man”, be “successful” or “the breadwinner.”

11,000 signatories attached to the non-peer reviewed paper which the media made absolutely zero attempts to question the validity of included Mickey Mouse, Aminta Aardvark and Albus Dumbledore. Typical drip-feed brainless and contemptable reporting.

An open letter supporting the Extinction Rebellion threw up some very enlightening facts. Read it and weep. Not the letter – the stats. Perhaps the most hilarious signatory to the letter is Matthew Flinders of Flinders University. Unless the university website has another Matthew Flinders listed as an active member, our esteemed explorer seems to have navigated his way back to life…simply adding to the total lack of credibility of the cabal of 268 academics who believe they have some sort of intellectual superiority over us. If one ever wanted proof of our judiciary leaning hard left, 12% of the people that signed this document were in law-related fields. Eerily, over 90% of the signatories do not appear to be renowned experts in teaching science, much less climate science.

The Inclusive Communications Task Force at the Colorado State University has introduced an appropriate language guide and it has deemed the words “America” and “Americans” might prove offensive to some and have discouraged their use on campus.

Dr. Aaron Brough of Utah State University conducted the study to see if there is a correlation between toxic masculinity and climate change. His assumptions ran the line that men see environmentalism as more feminine and get triggered if forced to make ecological choices if they feel threatened.

The government-funded University of Melbourne allows an artistic performance that requires “paying” white customers access on the basis of signing an acknowledgement of white privilege.

Don’t miss the posters put up by the University of San Francisco which pointed out how to spot privilege.

A Michigan State University religious studies professor Shreena Gandhi has claimed that white people who do yoga contribute to a “system of power, privilege, and oppression… White Americans should learn yoga’s history, acknowledge the cultural appropriation they engage in and possibly reduce the cost of yoga classes for poor people, a group that often includes people of colour and recent immigrants, such as Indian women to whom this practice rightfully belong.”

According to the BBC, it was. The UK taxpayer-funded broadcaster is buying into this hypothesis that the CIA may have been too “white” and not diverse enough to spot the terrorist activity around September 11, 2001. Weren’t the whites that founded the agency in 1947 the same thinkers who had the nous to use “diversity” (Navaho Native Americans) to devastating effect to transmit sensitive information during WWII?

We could go on and on – but you get the drift.

There have been some good wins from those that have stood up for their beliefs.

Chik-fil-A, refused to back down on its Christian beliefs that the store was founded on.  It is now the fastest-growing fast-food chain in America.

Adani has said things are progressing just fine.

FedEx told customers that it didn’t like guns but wasn’t getting involved in boycotting NRA loyal customers after the Parkland shooting.

NRA membership searches surged 4900% the week after the Parkland shooting as people valued their 2A rights.

What a surprise in today’s academia. Three scholars—James Lindsay, Helen Pluckrose, and Peter Boghossian—wrote 20 fake papers using fashionable politically correct jargon (wrt gender equality, white supremacy, LGBTQI) and developed ridiculous conclusions with the aim of placing these ‘peer-reviewed’ pieces in high-profile journals. At the time of exposing the hoax 7 journals succeeded in being published, 7 were in the approvals process

This growing intolerance and failure to respect alternative opinions. Instead of openly debating Läderach on how normal the overwhelming majority of LGBT people are, do lobby groups honestly believe shouting them down, using acid, shaming and boycotting will somehow win them over? Not in a million years.

Worryingly, a CIS study in Australia showed that 58% of millennials had a favourable view of socialism. Unfortunately, 51% did not know who Chairman Mao was. Another 32% did not know Stalin and 42% hadn’t heard of Lenin. If we combine with “know but not familiar” with “don’t know” we see almost 80%, 66% and 74% respectively. Oh, how wonderful to learn in school about three men whose social policies led to the deaths of 10s of millions.

Silence is consent. As Orwell said, “In times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act!

The brainwashing of kiwi kids

You can’t make this stuff up. Jacinda Ardern’s government will be introducing climate change into the 11-15yo curriculum in order to lock in the brainwashing early. A perfect reason not to ever have Jacinda as our PM. The Guardian noted,

Every school in New Zealand will this year have access to materials about the climate crisis written by the country’s leading science agencies – including tools for students to plan their own activism, and to process their feelings of “eco-anxiety” over global heating.

The curriculum will put New Zealand at the forefront of climate change education worldwide; governments in neighbouring Australia and the United Kingdom have both faced criticism for lack of cohesive teaching on the climate crisis. The New Zealand scheme, which will be offered to all schools that teach 11 to 15 year-old students, will not be compulsory, the government said.”

One imagines those students that don’t attend such classes will be made to feel isolated. Don’t bother to teach the kids to think critically and evaluate both sides of the argument. Just push a narrative and force kids to regurgitate this nonsense as they tap into their personal devices while plugged into a wall.

Maybe Jacinda Ardern could cut the Wellness Budget in half were she to tell kids that they will be ok rather than scare them witless into the nearest mental health service. Talk about creating a market for services based on misinformation. It is a disgrace and utterly irresponsible.

Bit by bit, the freedom of independent thought is being taken from us in front of our very eyes. The sad thing will be when economic reality smacks these kids who fell for the Kool-Aid. Their lives will be palpably worse buy all of the doomsaying they were spoon fed will never have eventuated. For people who can see through this, where is the pushback to accept this nonsense?

Yale University’s novel approach to student anxiety

No it’s not April Fools. It seems Yale University’s Chaplain’s Office believes a $70,000pa education requires a bouncy castle and/or cookies & coloring to reduce anxiety for students.

The “Cookies & Coloring Study Break” occurs once a week at the Chaplain’s Office in an area known as the “Breathing Space.” Students can “take an hour to put down your phone, color (don’t worry there’s no judging your artistic ability), have a freshly baked cookie, and great conversation.”

The “Bouncy Castle” will be coming in spring to help with anxiety relief needs. Students can bounce out their stress by following the hashtag #YaleChaplainsBounce.

Providing non-gluten free cookies could land the Chaplain’s Office in hot water not to mention the Honda generator that keeps the castle inflated may trigger those students who suffer from climate change anxiety. Being Christians, it will be open season for attack if deemed not inclusive enough.

Which begs the question whether the institution of crèches in the workplaces of today is actually just preparation for these students when they graduate?
