Biden campaign in a nutshell?

We think Ronald Reagan’s comments work well with the Biden campaign. Higher taxes for most. More anti-competition regulation for many industries and subsidies for green energy.

Which begs the question. Do you honestly think politicians can spend your money better than you can?

As Nobel laureate Milton Friedman once said,

You can spend your own cash on yourself – you have a great incentive to economise and get the best bang for your buck. You can spend your own money on somebody else, perhaps by buying your neighbour a present. Again, you will seek to economise; but you won’t care as much about getting good value for money. “You will, of course, want to get something the recipient will like – provided that it also makes the right impression and does not take too much time and effort…Then you can spend somebody else’s money on yourself. Imagine a lunch on an expense account: you will try and spend as much as you can get away with, with limited incentive to economise, but seeking to get the best possible meal for the price. Last but not least, you could spend someone else’s money on yet another person. You will have little interest in economising – and won’t care too much about getting the greatest value for money.

Yelp to list businesses accused of racism

For those who don’t know, Yelp is a site that collects ratings about all manner of services – from restaurants, plumbers, electricians to hair salons. One can even search exclusively for black-owned businesses.

Yelp has now decided to add a function which alerts consumers of businesses accused of ‘racism.’

It wrote:

At Yelp, we value diversity, inclusion and belonging, both internally and on our platform, which means we have a zero tolerance policy to racism….Communities have always turned to Yelp in reaction to current events at the local level. As the nation reckons with issues of systemic racism, we’ve seen in the last few months that there is a clear need to warn consumers about businesses associated with egregious, racially-charged actions to help people make more informed spending decisions….Now, when a business gains public attention for reports of racist conduct, such as using racist language or symbols, Yelp will place a new Business Accused of Racist Behavior Alert on their Yelp page to inform users, along with a link to a news article where they can learn more about the incident.

What if Yelp incorrectly accuses a corporation/business of racism based on a false claim?

Remember what happened to Oberlin College?

The whole issue started when a student from Oberlin College was caught shoplifting two bottles of wine from Gibson’s Bakery while trying to buy another with fake ID. Allyn Gibson, son of the owner chased down the shoplifter but was attacked by his accomplices. The perpetrators claimed racial profiling by the store.

Oberlin College’s Dean of Students, Meredith Raimondo, joined in student protests calling Gibsons a “racist establishment.” It was then that Oberlein ended all business with the bakery (which had been an ongoing supplier to the college since 1885). Flyers were printed and the store attacked.

Several faculty staff joined the protestors who tried to shut down Gibsons despite the college president Carmen Twillie Ambar suggesting they were on private time and only representing their First Amendment rights, not representing the school.

After a police investigation turned over nothing to suggest racism on any level, Oberlin resumed its contract with Gibson’s but refused to publicly retract the accusations.

Gibson sued for defamation and won US$25 million. The three perpetrators admitted they’d made it all up and that the shop owner had a right to charge them for their crime.

We will have no sympathy if Yelp falls into this woke trap and gets sued for falsely accusing innocent businesses.

Oh, the sanctimony squad strikes again

Oh, the sanctimony. 88 faculty colleagues at Notre Dame co-signed a letter requesting Judge Amy Coney Barrett halt her confirmation process and step aside til after the election.

It would have helped if among those 88 erudite academics, that one might be from the law faculty. Alas, among those who signed the letter criticizing Barrett, 4 were gender studies professors, 4 were peace studies professors, 9 specialized in English and another 7 were librarians. None from the Notre Dame Law School.

This follows a pattern we have reported on before where left leaning academics/activists pass off high numbers of co-signatories as a sort of validation process. Closer analysis reveals how often the very people who would make these letters credible are often conspicuously absent.

We list some of them here:

1) Remember 11,000 cosignatories to a non-peer reviewed paper on climate change that included Mickey Mouse and Albus Dumbledore?

2) Or the Feb 2020 Safe Climate Declaration which hosted 100 speakers of which less than 5% were climate scientists. Most were from academia, media and high schools.

3) Or the 268 cosignatories of an open letter in support of Extinction Rebellion (XR). Perhaps the most hilarious signatory to the letter was Matthew Flinders. Our esteemed explorer seemed to have navigated his way back to life after 200 years.

4) Or the the sanctimonious video made by the World Mental Health Coalition (WMHC) where all members co-signed the case for Trump’s lack of mental capacity. Sounds impressive using “world”, doesn’t it? Given the World Psychiatric Association represents 200,000 members worldwide, WHMC’s 37 members seems rather pathetic by comparison. Be sure to read how they were prepared to ditch their Hippocratic oath to smear Trump.

5) The liberal artists who caved so soon after signing a letter condemning cancel culture.

Sinister Big tech’s intentional election meddling

Big tech is determined to tell users what they deem is suitable for consumption. The top screen grab is from Facebook. Head of Comms, Andy Stone, made it clear the social media giant would curtail the Biden conflict of interest news story under the guise of ‘fact checking.’

The NY Post article that surfaced overnight revealed emails from Hunter Biden’s PC which showed he was leveraging his then VP father’s relationship with Ukrainians execs.

Twitter went to an even more interesting approach to suggest the NY Post link was “unsafe” to prevent views.

What we do know from history is that the more efforts made to cover one’s tracks, the more one guarantees to raise awareness to those problems on a stratospheric level.

Ultimately, big tech firms were granted immunity from prosecution as they promised to be mere hosts of content without fear or favour. Now that they are using discretionary editing, they should lose their sanctuary status and be liable to prosecution for suppressing free speech.

These are deep-seated liberal activist platforms. As businesses they are free to exercise commercial decisions. However they don’t have a right to flaunt laws without real world consequences.

Today big tech crossed a line and outed themselves as interfering in the election.

Merriam Webster dictionary updates use of word ‘sexual preference’ after Democrat Senators disparage ACB

You have to hand it to the Stalinists running the Merriam-Webster dictionary. As soon as Democrat Senators Mazie Hirono and Cory Booker disparaged Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett for using the term ‘sexual preference‘ as an “offensive” term it updated its online definition accordingly.

Senator Hirono remarked, “You use the term sexual preference to describe those in the LGBTQ community…Let me make clear: ‘sexual preference’ is an offensive, an outdated term. It is used by anti-LGBTQ activists to suggest that sexual orientation is a choice. It is not.

Naturally, ACB said she never used the term in a pejorative manner.

It reminds us of the scene from 1984 when Winston’s friend Syme says,

A word contains its opposite in itself. Take ‘good,’ for instance. If you have a word like ‘good,’ what need is there for a word like ‘bad’? ‘Ungood’ will do just as well…

…The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect. Newspeak is Ingsoc and Ingsoc is Newspeak.”

It wasn’t so long ago that The Guardian‘s editors openly encouraged journalists to amplify language when referencing ‘climate change’.

Double plus good.

Crazy Mazie

Keeping it classy! Democrat Senator Mazie Hirono’s question to Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. When one can’t attack her credentials, just go for sleaze.

What next? “Have you been engaged in a child sex trafficking ring?”

These people have NO shame.

NBA Game 5 2020 viewers -70% vs 2019

Rut Roh! It seems that all the political activism on the basketball court has seen NBA Game 5 drawing only 5.7 million viewers, according to TVLine, representing a nearly 70% decline from the 18.22 million viewers who tuned-in for Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals when the Golden State Warriors took on the Toronto Raptors.

No wonder the NBA is promising to keep its woke activities behind closed doors in 2021.

The NBA finally figured out that fans watch sports to distract themselves from politics and financial/marital/work stresses, not have it shoved down their throats.

Disney’s Double Standards

Never let social justice get in the way of the almighty dollar or RMB.

Disney is having a hard time explaining why it was happy to threaten to pull the company’s production apparatus from Georgia if the state passed a controversial ban on abortions performed after a fetal heartbeat is detected but was happy to shoot part of the film, Mulan, in the Xinjiang region in China where the government has been accused of oppressing the country’s Muslim-minority Uighurs.

Disney responded as follows:

The film is a celebration of female empowerment, based on a 1,500-year-old Chinese poem…The scenes in Xinjiang amount to just 78 seconds and were done to capture the region’s dramatic desert scenery and the historic Silk Road. Most of the movie was shot in New Zealand.

We don’t have an issue with corporations acting in the best interests of shareholders. We only wish they would be consistent in their application of social standards. Ideally, they should shut up.

Sadly, in an ESG consumed finance world, listed corporations are focused on making ever more woke gestures and statements to appease institutional funds who run guilt tripping rackets which coax gullible investors into thinking they are being socially responsible when in reality they’re forking over higher fees to line their pockets in a market structure ruined by low margins ETFs. It is a total con.

Totally unhinged rant from Trump hating journalist

This must be probably the most unhinged rant given by any journalist in history. ex-MSNBC journalist Keith Olbermann took to YouTube to say that President Trump is a “terrorist” and that Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett and others should be “prosecuted and convicted and removed from our society.”

While we understand the media pack has chronic Trump Derangement Syndrome, we weren’t aware that Supreme Court nominees were guilty of anything much less in need of erasure.

You have to hand it to people like Olbermann who think they are the voice of reason, common sense and spirit level balance on all matters.

He is the very person he condemns.

Gov Whitmer’s alleged kidnappers hate Trump too

It seems that one of the very ringleaders who plotted to kidnap Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer was NOT inspired by President Trump. For he hates him too.

Damned narratives that keep getting debunked.
