Chicago & Portland Mayors finally agree Trump was right all along

Chicago’s Magnificent Mile was ransacked by looters. City officials ended up raising bridges across the river to prevent further rioters entering the CBD, albeit too late. Similar actions occurred during BLM protests several months ago.

Luxury goods stores were the main target. Chicago police exchanged gunfire with looters and arrested more than 100 people.

Most interesting were the comments made by Superintendent of Police David O’Neil Brown, who said that the CPD is being forced to release criminals who only become emboldened to double down and commit further crimes without consequence.

Brown said, “This was not an organized protest. Rather this was an incident of pure criminality…As of now, Chicago police have made more than 100 arrests for looting, disorderly conduct, battery against police, among other charges. A total of 13 officers have been injured throughout the night, including a sergeant who was struck with a bottle. Another officer had his nose broken as he fought with a group of looters…Criminals took to the streets with confidence that there’ll be no consequences for their actions. Let me say that again, criminals took to the street with the confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions and I, for one, refuse to allow these cowardly acts to hold our city hostage.”

Mayor Lori Lightfoot moved away from her traditional “everything is under control” narrative to confess, “These individuals engaged with it can only be described as brazen and extensive criminal looting and destruction. To be clear, this had nothing to do with legitimate protected first amendment expression.

What a surprise? When she gave carte blanche to criminals and rioters under the guise of peaceful protestors, what did she expect? Now she is seeking to do the exact thing Trump was demanding of her. Get tough.

How the tide is turning. Only days ago, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) finally admonished the mob he had openly protested with by stating,  “When you commit arson with an accelerant in an attempt to burn down a building that is occupied by people who you have intentionally trapped inside, you are not demonstrating, you are attempting to commit murder.” He also added “Don’t think for a moment that you are, if you are participating in this activity, you are not being a prop for the reelection campaign of Donald Trump — because you absolutely are…You are creating the b-roll film that will be used in ads nationally to help Donald Trump during this campaign. If you don’t want to be part of that, then don’t show up.

Who knew that one way to get peace in a city is to tell rioters their actions are helping the very man they want to be removed from office?

BLM activist wins Missouri Dem primary

In Missouri’s heavily Democrat-leaning 1st congressional district, which includes St. Louis, BLM activist Cori Bush has defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. Lacy Clay after she lost to him by 20 points in the 2018 primary. On Aug 4th, Bush received 49% of the vote to Clay’s 46%.

Bush has been endorsed by Bernie Sanders who said, “She is a true progressive who stands with working people and will take on the corporate elite of this country when she gets to Congress.”

Senator Sanders, we do think it slightly amusing that Bush posed for a photograph outside a Mercedes-Benz sponsored event.

Palestinian American activist Linda Sarsour also retweeted a post quoting Cori Bush’s statement confirming she “has always been sympathetic to the BDS movement” –  the boycott, divestment and sanction campaign against Israel.

In a recent video message to Muslims, Bush pledged to oppose President Trump’s “Muslim ban,” and “an end to U.S. imperialism, endless wars and policies of destabilization in the Middle East and in Muslim-majority countries.”

She added that “not only are we standing up for black lives, but for oppressed people everywhere, be they Palestinian, Afghani, Somali, Pakistani, Yemeni, Syrian, or Jewish, both here at home and abroad…Our people have a shared experience of dehumanization, a shared experience of aggressive policing, state violence, hyper-surveillance, racism and xenophobia…this has to change.”

Strange Bush included Jewish people when she openly supports a group that is anti-Israel.

More evidence of the hard left taking over the Democrats? Not so fast…

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is up against Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones who she narrowly defeated in 2018 for the Michigan 13th congressional district.

As we mentioned recently, Squad member Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was not endorsed by the state’s largest newspaper the Star Tribune, criticizing her unethical behaviour.

Also, Obama did not include Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in his endorsements for NY Democrats.

The last member of the Squad, Ayanna Pressley is up for her primary on September 1st. She unseated 10-term incumbent Rep. Michael Capuano in 2018. Pressley is infamous for making the following remarks – which Joe Biden would undoubtedly approve given his recent gaffe:

“We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice. We don’t need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don’t want to be a queer voice.”

NY conducts its own COVID-19 investigation on itself – finds no fault

Who knew? NY State Dept of Health conducted an investigation on itself as to the impacts of Gov Cuomo’s order which forced nursing homes to take in people that tested positive for COVID-19. Verdict? Not guilty!

Cuomo’s DoH concluded that the governor’s mandate did not have a significant impact in terms of the 6,000+ fatalities.

Instead, it blamed family members and staffers who unknowingly brought the virus into these nursing homes.

A witness, Frank Kolbmann, told New York Health Commissioner Howard Zucker in no uncertain terms that he is involved in “a disingenuous cosmetic attempt to cover up for your current boss’ immense crime.

Janice Dean lost both her in-laws, Mickey and Dee Newman, in a New York nursing home and directly blames Cuomo’s mandate for this avoidable tragedy. According to Townhall, Dean sent in her formal request last week to testify. However, just hours before the hearing, she was dropped from the list.

We are quite sure there are many crooked companies that would love to be able to audit their own accounts and claim they are compliant with the soundest corporate governance standards.

Anything short of an independent investigation is a farce. One can imagine Victoria will follow a similar path of “independence” in its investigation on the second outbreak.

59% think Biden would quit midway through first term

Rasmussen Reports discovered that 59% of likely voters polled think that Joe Biden would not see out his first term as president. 39% who say it’s very likely.

Even 49% of Democrats think it’s likely Biden’s vice president will become president in the next four years, although that compares to 73% of Republicans and 57% of voters not affiliated with either major party.”

NASA’s Hubble brains plan to end racism

One could be forgiven for thinking that with all the rocket scientists that grace the halls of NASA, at least one bright spark might have questioned the measurable impact of removing words from the space agency’s lexicon. It wrote,

“As the scientific community works to identify and address systemic discrimination and inequality in all aspects of the field, it has become clear that certain cosmic nicknames are not only insensitive, but can be actively harmful. NASA is examining its use of unofficial terminology for cosmic objects as part of its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion...As an initial step, NASA will no longer refer to planetary nebula NGC 2392, the glowing remains of a Sun-like star that is blowing off its outer layers at the end of its life, as the “Eskimo Nebula.” “Eskimo” is widely viewed as a colonial term with a racist history, imposed on the indigenous people of Arctic regions…

Can NASA point to one triggered Eskimo who has filed a formal complaint? We always thought black holes were called that because of their colour. Many stars happen to be white. Are stars supremacist?

The Agency will be working with diversity, inclusion, and equity experts in the astronomical and physical sciences to provide guidance and recommendations for other nicknames and terms for review.

We look forward to NASA sending racism into orbit for good through the power of language. We can be absolutely sure that these “experts” will be the last people on earth qualified to make any suggestions.

We request that any organization that puts forward this kind of woke nonsense be forced to quantify the net impact of their actions on the very minorities they seek to protect.

For a group that put man on the moon, surely they should be lobbying to replace the racist American flag with a Eskimo Nebulas Matter flag instead.

Bike shop co-owned by Lance Armstrong lectures Austin PD on ethics

Image may contain: sky and outdoor, text that says "Mellow JOHNNY'S BIKE SHOP FORT WORTH TRAINING RENTALS OHNAHOR S SHOP SERVIGE BUKE"

How amusing that a bicycle store co-owned by former Tour de France (TdF) cyclist Lance Armstrong decided to lecture the Austin Police Department on ethics. Mellow Johnny’s in Austin is ending a five-year contract worth up to $350,000 with the Austin PD to purchase, resell and service bikes for a downtown patrol unit used to manage large crowds and events. As a business, it is free to choose who it wishes to contract with.

The bike shop issued the following woke statement,

Businesses can no longer be non-participants in the communities they serve…We chose what we think will do the most to suture these divides and place our community on the right side of history.

Perhaps these SJW employees might reflect on their moral preening when considering the fact their boss admitted to deliberately using illegal performance-enhancing drugs to cheat his way to millions in endorsements and help win all 7 TdF titles. Why didn’t they refuse to work for a company knowingly co-owned by someone with such reprehensible morals and ethics?

Unfortunately, the downside forced this message from an unrelated bike shop with the same name.

“While Mellow Johnny’s Fort Worth shares the name with Mellow Johnny’s Austin, the two stores operate under separate management and ownership.

Mellow Johnny’s Fort Worth is not connected in any way to the decisions made by the Austin location’s management.

Mellow Johnny’s Fort Worth supports our community as well as responsible and ethical law enforcement.

Perhaps Mellow Johnny’s Fort Worth should offer to fill the void left by Austin?

Black Americans the fastest-growing gun buyers in 2020

It seems that the fastest-growing cohort for gun ownership in 2020 is black Americans. There is even a #BlackGunsMatter movement.

The highest overall firearm sales increase comes from Black men and women, who show a 58.2% increase in purchases during the first six months of 2020 versus the same period last year,” according to Jim Curcuruto, Director of Research and Market Development for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).

NSSF research shows white Americans increased purchases by 51.9%, Hispanic Americans by 49.4% and Asian Americans by 42.9%. During the first half of 2020, retailers noted that the overall makeup of their customers consisted of 55.8% white males, 16.6% white females, 9.3% Black males, 5.4% Black females, 6.9% Hispanic males, 2.2% Hispanic females, 3.1% Asian males and 0.7%Asian females.

The NSSF reported in a July Firearm Retailer Survey for 1H 2020:

  • 87% reported an increase in sales year-on-year
  • 92.4% noted an increase in ammunition sales.
  • A 95% average increase in the unit sales of firearms.
  • A 139% average increase in the sales of ammunition.
  • An all-time record of 10.3 million firearm transactions were processed by retailers nationwide in 1H 2020.

To dispel stereotypes of gun owners being mostly angry white men, the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA) boasts membership growth of 15,000 new members in 2020 so far. Pretty spectacular given the membership before George Floyd’s death stood at 40,000. NAAGA founder Phillip Smith said,“A lot of times in our community, we hear a lot of our politicians, unfortunately, say, don’t have a gun. You don’t need a gun…Well, I pushed back on that and say, that’s the very thing that we do need.”

It is also worth noting in 2003, only 13% of women identified as gun owners. In 2020 that number stands at 25%.

The WSJ reported that a record number of pro 2nd Amendment women candidates are running in November. Of the 220 filed to run, 50 have already secured their names on the ballot.

Is this a traditional Democrat vs Republican election or one about the constitution?

Update on Japan’s geriatric crime wave

A little over 4 years ago we wrote a piece on the geriatric crimewave in Japan. Recidivist pensioners were committing petty crimes to break into prison to offset a life of poverty.

Our full report can be found here.

Here are some excerpts from Gendai Business magazine which updates the worsening crisis facing the elderly and prison:

The number of “elderly inmates”above the age of 70 was 1,884 (2.65% of the total number of inmates in 2007) but in 2017 that number had surged to 2,278 people (4.81% of the total)…

…Their crimes? 54.2% of those 70yo+ were jailed for theft, far higher than convictions for possession of methamphetamines (9.4%). 90% of those thefts involved shoplifting or stealing bicycles…

…a 2017 police white paper noted that those over 65yo are 3.45x more likely to steal than minors (14-19yo)...

…Considering that the number of elderly inmates continues to increase, it is not difficult to imagine that the number of inmates requiring nursing care for dementia is rising with it. It can be said that some prisons are already becoming “nursing homes” in effect. If left as it is, the prison will soon be unable to stand...

Behind this is the problem of poverty. The aging rate in 2019 is 28.4%, the poverty rate of elderly households is 27%, and there are old people everywhere who are in need of support…

The last resort to reach an elderly person who has no family or job and cannot rely on anyone, and who cannot live their lives, is a safe prison life that guarantees “food, medicine and shelter”. In recent years, the number of elderly people who are recidivists for the purpose of “going into jail” is increasing.

All of these problems we noted in our 2016 report. Our suggestion was to build huge retirement villages in remote areas in Japan where the elderly could elect to sacrifice a portion of their pension to live without the indignity of living behind bars. As it stands, prison guards will increasingly become nurses, including changing diapers for the elderly.

State of recurring Disasters

Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has made a very strong case for rejecting identity politics in all of its forms.

It has now come to light that he and his team prioritized social inclusion over ability when selecting the private security firms to manage hotel quarantine during coronavirus. This is widely regarded as the source of the second outbreak. Guards with no training who ended up in some cases fornicating with guests under their watch. You can’t make this stuff up.

This is the same individual who refused to censure his Deputy Chief Health Officer Annaliese van Diemen for tweeting,

Sudden arrival of an invader from another land, decimating populations, creating terror…Forces the population to make enormous sacrifices & completely change how they live in order to survive. COVID19 or Cook 1770?

How is it possible that social justice took a front seat to a pandemic? Surely ALL Victorians would gladly trade identity politics for sound health policy prescriptions which didn’t lock them up for another 6 weeks.

Andrews was only too happy to have his police force fine people playing golf or fishing but didn’t prosecute a single person for attending a BLM rally which by itself must have also led to a spike in cases.

Here are some more pearls of wisdom we’ve noted over the years.

Years ago, the Victorian premier championed that he had 200,000 likes on FB, twice as many as Mike Baird in New South Wales. He also made the completely worthless boast that “Mike Baird gets no ‘Likes’ after 10pm“. Is that a true test of leadership? That only 3% of Victorians like him?

We recall Andrews pushing the Victorian Police to host segregated seminars for potential new recruits in order to accommodate their religious beliefs.

In October last year he said misogynist slogans on vehicles would lead to an automatic cancelation of registration. Presumably misandrist slogans were ok.

We noted the shocking state of affairs with the unionization of the Victorian CFA and its dreadful administration. Huge uptick in salaries, staffing and administration costs with a decline in equipment procurement.

Or the rorts for votes scandal.

Or joining China’s BRI without consulting the federal government on national security grounds.

We could go on.

The ability to steer through a crisis is the true test of any leader. All of Andrews’ flawed thinking might be nice to haves in the moral preening stakes. Sadly coronavirus has exposed them as utterly meaningless and outright dangerous. Putting forward ridiculous parameters for hiring put Victorian lives in more danger.

How he hasn’t resigned is beyond us. Despite being the most disastrous premier in Australian history, Andrews continues to get comforting support from mainstream and social media. Maybe he believes their propaganda that he is doing a decent job. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Brad Binder makes KTM history

MotoGP rookie Brad Binder was not only the first South African to win in the class but also handed Austrian manufacturer KTM its first ever win at the highest level. Flawless win in the Czech Republic.

Binder won the Moto3 World Championship in 2016.
